Rutchsman is 3rd amongst all catchers in WAR since he debuted in 2022. He is objectively a very good mlb catcher.

Any chance Eyanson gets called up this yr with the Orioles? I know nothing about their pitching staff.

Rutschman has had 2 sub par years the last 2 years Go check his stats out. How he was an All-Star this year was mind boggling. His better days might be past him. And he only played in 90 games in 2025 and he's on the DL as i type this. I would take Eyanson over a catcher who is declining it looks like any day of the week. I don't care how many All Star games Rutschman got selected in.

He’s 28yo lol. Slashing .250/.330/.430 in a down year. frick outta here

Right now he is an average catcher hitting wise. The stats dont lie. Wake up and put your glasses on or get your eyes checked.

Wouldn’t think so. But he looks ready for AAA. If that happens soon & goes well, I could see a September call up since the O’s are out of it

JFC, I quit. You’re right. Despite all evidence to the contrary, we’ll go with your answer

LOL go read my other post. He is not the same players he once was cowboy. His last 2 seasons have been subpar. But you keep going off stats from 2022-2024. The Red Sox in my opinion gave up way too much to get Rutschman..

he's third among catchers in WAR...THIS YEAR as well. He's also top 5 in defensive WAR. By every objective data point, he's one of the best catchers in baseball. He hits well relative to other catchers and still fields at an elite level relative to other catchers. There is no way you can look at the actual data and come to the conclusion he is average to below average as a hitter. A catcher is not valued the same way a first baseman is.

he hit .220 last year

he's hitting .251 this year

And he's injury prone

And he's not the same player he once was

Sure he's good defensively but you gave up your 2nd rd pick last year who is pretty much dominating at Double A and will probably get a chance next year to make the Orioles rotation

He's a 28 year year old 3x all-star, a proven commodity. Eyanson shows potential. He hasn't proven a thing at the MLB level

And injury prone is a bit of a stretch. He missed no time his first three years. Last year he tore an oblique. This year he missed time for a concussion after being hit in the hit with a throw and now he has a minor wrist injury.

On a per/162 game basis, he's basically putting up very similar numbers that he did his previous all-star season in 2024 and arguably a little bit better than his 2024 season. Better BA, higher OBP, better SLG, etc. I think you just have a really warped reality of what a good mlb catcher catcher is supposed to look like. Do you have any idea how rare it is to have a good defensive catcher who can also hit like he can? There might be 3 other guys in baseball who can do that. That's a very valuable commodity whether you care to admit it or not. A 28 year old proven commodity in baseball is every bit as valuable as an unproven prospect. Yes, Eyanson is doing very well in AA ball, but he's still just a prospect, and he's not a prospect like Paul Skenes either.

I would not have expected them to get rid of Eyanson he had been dealing since they drafted him really. That is shocking.

the industry isnt as high on him as prospect sites. Which is all that really matters

Based on what? Rutschman is viewed as an elite catcher who they may sign long term in the offseason and is under team control through next season. They were awful at catcher all season. Trading away a few highly ranked prospects who may or may not pan out is not giving up way too much. Outside of Eyanson, you had never heard of any of the other prospects until yesterday.

Baltimore double A is in Bowie, MD. Ironically, I used to live there and went and watched Rutschman play there before getting called up later that season.

ETA: I see they’ve recently rebranded and relocated.

Fair enough. But it is still very odd to give away 2/3 of your top prospects but fair enough.
