I hope this was in jest. A west coast coach with no ties to the south will have a harder time recruiting the south than a coach whom has come up though the coaching ranks in the south.

What does the food have to do with anything. Agree everything else.

LSU Hoops required a Dale Brown/PT Barnum yeoman's effort to sell the LSU fanbase to fill the PMAC. It took his covering the state in P&G nets and balls, recruiting globally, and six-plus years to build it up into a winner.

Bruce Pearl re-ignited the Vols fanbase, had Thompson-Boling filled for men's games, for practically the first time since Don Devoe, or the Ernie & Bernie Show eras.

Some schools need "right fits" besides just being a solid HC that can win and/or recruit a bit.

The LSU fanbase hasn't come close to fully embracing an LSU Mens Basketball HC since Brown, whom despite some detractors, was wildly popular.

Hiring a stoic west-coaster that spoke in a monotone baritone glum manner, that can't recruit locally, let alone well nationally, wasn't a "right fit", despite his high intelligence, solid X&O abilities, super high character values. Despite his delivering an outright SEC crown in a season that I consider probably the best LSU Mens Hoops coaching job of the last 20 yrs(despite objections by some here that anyone could've won with that team)..

Right Fit/Good Fit, yes it is an accurate term/phrase, and does apply to HCs, Schools, Leagues, Ath Depts, Budgets, Academia, Recruiting Grounds, Regions,etc..can be based upon a multitude and myriad of factors.

Life and sophistications are played out in shades of grey..the 10 Commandments are black and white.

As a Basketball Coach, I cannot admire Trent Johnson. First, when he came to LSU, LSU did not have a history of "dirt." I am no John Brady apologist, but Brady did not run a dirty program. There was nothing to "clean" up. Second, even if he did recruit players who were academically "solid," I still measure a coach by what kind of job he does on the court. Even without measuring wins and loses, and he had two absolutely miserable seasons, if he even actually taught his players what to do on the court, I saw durn little of that on the court.

The bottom line was the product Trent Johnson put on the floor at LSU, and it was terrible.

He may be a "nice" guy, but he wasn't paid to be nice and lose, he was paid be nice and win.

If, as fans, we took the same attitude towards our football coaches, Saban would never have been hired.

I've known a few West Coast people that moved to Baton Rouge for career advancement. They HATED living there. Hated the heat, humidity, crime, poor education systems, grinding poverty, racial issues, and other factors. Could not wait to leave.

It means he just didn't fit into the culture. That's the best way I can explain it. The chemistry just wasn't there.
