re: Explain to me the Les/Mike the Tiger EA Sports Commercial

It was either a jab at our QB situation last season, or it's just coincidence that the other two videos are about two huge rivals OSU/Mich., and Georgia/Florida.
I mean they could have used a Baylor rival like Oklahoma or Texas.

quote:So with the obvious national college football storyline of our QB struggles from last season on the table, you find it ludicrous to believe that EA sports -- for no apparent reason -- chose the LSU themed add to be the only one with no other contextual humor whatsoever? We have three commercials, two poking fun at fans using Heisman winners from arch-rivals, and one with Mike using a Heisman winner from a team with whom we have almost zero connection and from a position with which we had such a noteworthy connection in literally the last college football game played?
Not that they used a premier program/quirky personality in miles for no other reason than to show a coach upset that someone/anyone within the program would play using a Heisman winner from a school/any school as a qb rather than their own...which happens to be the biggest feature/change on the game that they are trying to promote.
Well, even if you are right about that (unlikely as it seems), you are clearly wrong about it being a Tigerrant thing to suspect otherwise. If you google, "les miles ea sports commercial rgiii", the first two non-louisiana based results that pop up are reviews of the commercial that clearly make the connection between RGIII and our QB struggles from last year.

ea...I don't know why people thinking our QB debacle last year is "off limits"
Its not "off limits" its just that the avg fan doesn't see it the way LSU fans do. We were 13-1 and while the QB play was not RGIII level, for all but the last game and the SEC CG, which we won by 32, the QB play was ok. At best they see our QB was terrible in the last game, a lot of non LSU fans do not know there was a QB controversy at LSU.

Besides, if EA Sports really wanted to keep the rivalry theme and have Les pissed simply because Mike was playing with a non-LSU player, they could've easily had him playing with Mark Ingram since he's one of the selectable Heisman winners.
Or it could be they wanted one with the cover boy and current Heisman winner and a well known coach of a top team. The others featuring rivals are just actors.

it was not a jab at our qb situation. funny ya'll turn into insecure girls who over analyze such a simple commercial.
Agreed. This commercial is just a take on team loyalty with some humor.

quote:Seriously? Read an article -- any article, by any sports media outlet -- about the National Championship game from last year, and see if they don't at least mention LSU struggling at the QB position.
Sadly yes, as if the rest of the world follows LSU as closely as LSU fans that post on a message board.
quote:No, they are taking a shot at Ohio State's gigantic rivalry -- one commonly argued to rival even Alabama-Auburn (at least in the national media). Obviously, Baylor/LSU isn't that kind of rivalry, so they either randomly chose LSU to be the one commercial in which they decided to put absolutely zero contextual humor and just randomly happened to chose the position where LSU was nationally noted as struggling last year OR they decided to poke a little fun at Les the way they have in almost every ESPN commercial in which he's appeared.
Are they taking a shot at Ohio States WR's by having Howard on their team?
Or are you going to suggest the Corso/Fescue commercial wasn't a jab at Les' grass eating?
Posted on 7/20/12 at 7:37 am to H-Town Tiger
quote:It's not about the controversy. No one is suggesting the commercial is poking fun at Les for playing Jefferson over Lee or Mettenberger, or any of that crap.
At best they see our QB was terrible in the last game, a lot of non LSU fans do not know there was a QB controversy at LSU.
The point is that we were a super-awesome team last year in every way except at QB, and basically every college football fan in the country knows that. Hell, Redskins fans up here who didn't follow college football enough to know who RGII was until they drafted him knew that LSU had problems at QB last season. I think some of y'all don't get enough nationwide coverage to realize how big a story LSU is on the college football landscape. You have to work hard to find a college football fan anywhere in this country who doesn't know that LSU struggled at QB last year. It'd be like finding a college football fan in 2006 who didn't know SC had a good RB named Reggie Bush.

What? Les was on camera eating grass, so they have a commercial with him eating grass. No hidden message there, just poking fun at something that was actually done.

In the last game, yes, over all no. Despite what rantards say, we did not really struggle at QB last year, except for the BCS CG and the SEC CG which we won by 32.
I seriously doubt anyone but LSU fans would look at that commercial and think, Ha, they are poking fun at LSU for not having a QB. Because we know LSU was great except at QB. Most people don't think about other teams the way fans of that team do. What they see is someone using the most recent Heisman winner and cover boy on a different team and the coach of other, elite team taking offense at using a different player.
Its a commercial featuring LSU's head coach, who most of the rest of the CFB world respects, way more than our own fans, which is kind of sad.

Those videos feature actors. Ours features the guy on the cover on the game and the coach of a top tier team, that really dominated the whole season.

Except maybe Stoops or Mack Brown didn't want to do it or they wanted the coach of a top team from last year with the cover boy. Why is that so hard to accept.
Oh and someone for Texas A&M using RGIII would have been much more topical than Texas or OU and better than poking fun at LSU's QB situation.

quote:Yes, exactly. That "last game" was the National Championship Game, the biggest game of the year, and the last college football game played. And every college football fan in the country (and beyond) has heard about how our QB struggled in that game. So why is it so hard to imagine that EA sports would incorporate something so commonly known into one of their commercials?
In the last game, yes
quote:Well, google the commercial and (as I pointed out earlier) the top two non-louisiana based search results are reviews specifically describing how it (and Les) poke fun at our QB issues last year.
I seriously doubt anyone but LSU fans would look at that commercial and think, Ha, they are poking fun at LSU for not having a QB.
quote:What does that have to do with it? Did you misread something in this thread and think someone was suggesting it was in any way disrespectful? It was a joke, and one Les was obviously willing to make. Why would it be anymore a sign of disrespect than the commercial poking fun at Miles eating grass, or blocking his kid's shot in basketball?

quote:I'd bet you $1,000 that if you asked 100 people outside of the South who watch college football what position was the biggest issue for LSU last year, 95+ would say QB in a heartbeat. I don't live anywhere near Louisiana, and I saw local sportscasters talking about our QB situation, even before the National Championship Game. Y'all need to over your self-loathing issues and recognize that everything about LSU football is national college football news. Our QB issues last year were well documented nationally all season, and after the National Championship Game they absolutely flooded the airwaves for a while. Heck, it even got some more play leading up to the draft when people were talking about how neither of our SR QBs were legitimate draft contenders (and yes, people on TV OUTSIDE of Louisiana . . . like here in DC).
To actually think that our QB situation was such a huge story that people around the country would recognize it as a play on that is utterly laughable.
