It's because at one point we were behind. We have since gotten better when it comes to NIL. That's why you are linking an old interview. No one is complaining about NIL right now.

If you don’t think LSU is behind then you are blind
All you have to do is look at A&M. They have a payment structure that allows players like JaCoby Matthews to get $150,000 in his first year on campus
LSU doesn’t have that kind of structure. Thank God for Gordon McKernon for stepping bc Boutte was heading for Bama.
If we're behind on NIL then so is Bama and UGA whose coaches took shots at TAMU and Jimbo.

I think LSU has to win different in NIL. We aren’t going to be able to go toe for with big fish compared to A&M or Texas. Guys like Gordon are great for LSU NIL, but their net worth wouldn’t even be a rounding error for major A&M or Texas boosters.
We need to be able to take advantage of the scale of our brand and use things like The Player Option where we can have a lot of people give a little instead of a few people give a lot.

Everybody was behind A&M last year. We have gained ground though and are probably top 5 in the country in NIL now. Thanks to Gordon.
