actually people always say cal is a shitty x and o coach and the greatest recruiter. its been his knock his entire career.

A lot of people overestimate the value of the impact that a coach has on a game. When top players are having a bad game (and it may be because of breaking up with a girlfriend) or when the players on the other team are having career games against you, there's not much a great coach can do but ride it out. A coach can call great plays but the other teams luckily defends them. Many fans seem to think that a coach should be able to snap his fingers and everything resets course. They seem to think that a great coach means certain victory EVERY SINGLE time a game is played. So, they become vocal about what crappy coaches ours are because we don't win EVERY SINGLE time.

JJ's coaching
He makes some silly decisions, but I don't see many penetrators/playmakers in the backcourt. His offensive scheme is fairly limited. Hopefully that changes with Blakeney/Simmons next year and allows him to open things up on that end of the floor.

quote:I am just as upset that we lost to Missouri as anybody else. Missed free throws and unforced turnovers killed LSU Thursday night. That kind of shite really is out of Jones control short of replacing players. But what does Kentucky versus Missouri do with the LSU basketball team or Jones?
Watch what Kentucky does to Missouri.

tigerbait-how long should fans wait for a team to show EFFORT. When you are rebuilding as you say, the FIRST order of business should be the mindset, then you go get the physical athletes to complete your rebuilding process. And once you add the MINDSET to the physical attributes then you have a dominant program. Calipari is NOT a great x and o coach, but what he does is have his collection of talented players buy in to the mindset of TOTAL EFFORT EVERY POSSESSION. That is what LSU lacks.
I don't see this at all...how does a team that is that disruptive on defense not play with effort? I believe we have some some offensive possessions that look disjointed and like we are standing around. We take some bad shots...but I think the team always gives a good effort. JJ is a good coach I just think it is hard to build a team with so many young players...the games are going to be ugly...doesn't mean the coach sucks.

the players can definitely step it up. i can't recall ever seeing a team miss more point blank range shots than this team. it's stupendous.
georgia outworked lsu on the glass. excellent teams don't let that happen. lsu made some inexplicably bad passes last night.
the team looked flat against missouri. martin and mickey were especially off. both were outhustled and outplayed by marcus thornton.
those are things that players need to resolve.

This team lost 5 of last season's top 7 scorers.
O'Bryant 15.4
Stringer 11.8
Coleman 10.3
Hickey 8.4
Morgan 4.4
Plenty of room for improvement, but they've only played 2 conference games together. Players are stepping up. 12-3 with a couple of nice wins, ain't bad. I believe they will be playing better ball by March.

If your making more than a million dollars a year at your job no matter what it is yourfeet should be held to the fire. How 18 and 19 year olds play is a reflection of coaching. Rock force and go tigers
Posted on 1/11/15 at 9:35 am to We Will Win Again
We Will Win-You are missing the point. Against Missouri at practically every position on the floor LSU had an advantage physically. It became an effort and energy game. When teams are evenly matched on physical talent and one team or a few players are having a great night, then there is nothing you can do about it.
But when you have several advantages over your opponent and the EFFORT is not there that's when you lose to a below average team like Missouri. And playing DEFENSE is more about EFFORT AND ENERGY. That is where LSU was deficient against Missouri. It doesn't take a GREAT coach to demand that from his team. Can you name me a starter on Missouri team that would start for LSU???

Swap his talent with any other sec team
Can't you say much the same bout any big time college coach? If we give Nick the, let's say Mich. St. talent, do you think he has the same success as he has had with LSU and Bama talent?
The college game, really any game, is 90% bout the talent HC's bring in and what that talent does in whatever sport on game day.
Recruiting is such a major factor in the college game that you simply cant win big without a HC who excels at it no matter how great the HC might be at X&O.

everyone always blames
What HC at LSU isn't taken to task by the fans for demonstrating a poor coaching ability??? Miles is winning more games than any LSU football coach in our history, has played for 3 west titles, 2 BCS titles, and is still slammed regularly by "LSU fans". Our baseball guy wins the SEC tourney, the SEC, gets up deep into the playoffs, to the CWS, and owns a NC, but still gets picked apart over any move made in any L and many wins.
Why would expect JJ to get any different treatment???

Same with Patterson...
JJ has put LSU Basketball back on the map.
Don't care if he can coach at this pt....he damn sure can recruit....
More about the Jimmies and the Joes than the x's and o's. at this pt.

And what really gets me is when they take a shot at Dale Brown by comparison...I wonder if some people realize Dale got LSU to the NCAAs 13 times including 10 straight seasons.
