I've been saying this for years, but I actually prefer road games. The hassle of getting onto and off of campus during home games is ridiculous. The ridiculous traffic and the trashy tailgaters who treat the campus like a dumping ground. The drunken, obnoxious fans who care more about getting their drink on and starting fights than watching the game is irritating. My section in Tiger Stadium on the west sidelines is now mostly corporate types who give their tickets to visiting fans or to people who come to be seen, make 5 trips to the concession stand, and participate in the wave rather than cheer for the Tigers. The road LSU crowd is typically the more serious football fan. They cheer loudly and are not the negative "we suck" type of crowd. That being said....I'll probably pony up for the paid lot next year and have my arse right back out there. Geaux Tigers!

Hell, even watching a game in a bar out of town with the LSU alumni association can sometimes be more fun than watching the game in the stadium because of what you typed.

The real problem is that the State is in a budget crunch, and our legislature is about to gut higher education. Financial armageddon is predicted for July 2011. In response, the Athletic department has been asked to pick up addition costs that the university previously covered, and to cover those costs the athletic department is trying to find other sources of revenue.
LSU is very close to being fundamentally damaged. LSU has had big cuts the last few years, with even bigger cuts on the horizon. Yet with all this going on, the only time people really react to it is when they raise the price of parking for football games. It makes me sad.
So, what you need to do is call your congressman tell them to support higher education, even if all you really care about is a good spot for tailgating a few weekends each year.
This will have the exact opposite result. I will not support additional funding for LSU. I will oppose current wasteful practices, such as tenure, sabbatical and/or any perks given to faculty and staff. In additional, I will support more funding for community colleges and vocational schools along with increased admission(with the intention of lowering enrollment) standards and significantly lower enrollment at LSU.

I hope this will work to keep some of the white trash off of campus on game days.
The real fans are still going to show up and support the university. Educated people understand how this all works.

Nah man. They'll all just be parked by the lakes now.

Apparently not. There is a reason Tiger Stadium has the reputation it has, and it's not because of "educated" fans who have alot of disposable income.

I was at the Texas/OSU game this weekend and mentioned LSU to some people around me....you should have heard the responses I got. LSU's fans have a pretty horrible reputation.....with that being said, frick UT

Good enough for me. Get them out of the way around the stadium.

It will be now.
Yes it sucks we are out another $40 per game. What the people who still have "free" parking is that some people will not pay the $40 and thus park in the free spots. Thus pushing other people farther away from the stadium. all the while there are unused spots on the interior of campus.
We are L$U.

And that only means you lack comprehension skills. The issue isn't "how many". It's "what type of fans are coming to the games"
If someone tells me "That place was dead last night"...that usually means no one was there.
And how am i delusional about LSU? Ive pretty much been right so far.

Laughing doesn't make my statement false. Do you even remember the stadium back then?
yes it does...and yes i do. I remember alot of people sitting on their hands during those "subpar" games.

If you want to see the future just look at the NFL. I would bet my life they have discussed putting a corporate name on Tiger Stadium. Not that they will or want to. It all comes down to money. Unfortunately our academic institutions are not skilled enough at marketing to see new creative revenue opportunities for additional income. Just making available data that fans crave via Internet Apps, etc would bring in huge amounts of income. They just don't know how to do this.
Can you imagine if as a fan you could get all the same info you get from your TV, Internet plus more via your smart phone or iPad during a game? The NFL is already trying this in a horrible way. You have to buy a device! duh! Money is driving that and not what the fan wants.

And you figured this how?
Maybe by using simple math? Next year we only have 6 home games but most years we'll have 7 or 8.
6 home games w/ truck = $240
6 home games w/ trailer = $300

The thing is L$U has you by the nuts, it is just a matter of how hard they want to squeeze.
When I first read the release not for one minute did I think about not paying. Just throw an extra $40 on top of all the money we spend to go to the games. We are not going to stop going b/c we love it. You and I know this and so does L$U. So they are going to squeeze until eventually they pop a nut. That does not mean I have to just stand here and get my nuts crushed without screaming like hell.
