Agreed.
But, we'll find out REAL quick if Mett is the real deal.

I still say the 3rd string QB at McNeese is better than any QB we have on the team now...hey, just have to live with it

May not be a tougher player on the team.. coming off a good spring... ran for 33 yards on four carries in the spring game... speediest of the quarterbacks with 4.69 marking in the 40...
High School: prepped at Lafayette High where he played ball for his uncle Mark... all-state, all-district and all-parish... led team to district co-title... in senior year he passed for 2000 yards and 20 tds (only four interceptions)... rushed for 650 yards and 14 tds... also baseball letterman as outfielder and catcher

How many TD passes did JJ have this year? Was it 4? Even if he had a couple more, that should be enough to have a truly open competition right there. I think a new OC would push hard for an open competition after reviewing this year's film on JJ.

he played like one year at georgia and got kicked off campus

I agree with you, Rummy. I just look at it this way: you don't bring in a JUCO player to have them sit the bench. JUCO's and transfers are for immediate help at their position. I'm hoping Les is thinking this as well, and Mett turns out to be as good as advertised.

just going to let you know murray beat him out before he was kicked off the team....kid is good but dont count on him being a savior...he has 3 to play 3...GA doesnt count because he didnt play, Juco takes the year...

FAIR GAME.... if Mett is better, he starts!

The general consensus was that he beat out Murray...
But of course Richt wasn't going to say that the kid who was kicked off the team was better than the kid still there.

IMO, our biggest problems at QB all stem from 2008 when Lee threw all those interceptions. The next season when JJ started he was already under confident because of how Lee's season went, then the coaches ran a watered down playbook that was simple and predictable to avoid another season full of interceptions.
Running that watered down playbook stunted JJ's growth as a QB, imo. We need a QB that can throw when pressured and isnt afraid to make the risky throws...just like Flynn in 2007 when Crowton ran a decent offense.

Can I call a moratorium on all talk about Mettenberger until he's been signed, sealed and delivered to LSU...........
Posted on 12/3/10 at 7:06 am to TigerBandAlumnus82
If any of you have seen Mett you'd see that although its juco, his skills makes JJ look like a jv high school player. It maybe JJ's to lose. And he will. The minute Mett signs ,(if he does) he will be by far the best QB at LSU. 7 td passes all year long? Hell i couldua thrown that many with the receivers we have. Its more than Mechanics that a qb needs. And JJ doesn't have it.

think about it ..you really expect a transfer to just up and grab the reigns and lead the team seamlessly?
Why would you hold Mettenberger to a higher standard than Jefferson?
How many games have we had average QB play?
To me if Mettenberger is simply average, he wins the job going away. It doesn't have to be a seamless transition. He doesn't need to be a great QB. He just needs to be able to give us average QB play...and hopefully he would improve as the season goes on.

Like I said, I do think he has the talent that could propel him to the spot, but I also think that Les will feel the most pressure he has ever felt once Mett steps on campus. With the QB play that we have gotten the last two years - Les will be leaned on haaaaaaard to get Mett in the game.
Common sense would dictate mett would start. But Gary would have him running the option. So common sense is out the window.

Put JJ at tight end or running back.....
Posted on 12/3/10 at 8:04 am to Bobby Moore
Or how about just keep him on the bench and run a wild Shepard package.
