Do you really think Etling's arm is better, or are you just pointing out guys with relatively weak arms too?

In other words, that group doesn't have elite arms. Neither does Etling. I haven't seen anything to indicate that his arm is stronger than theirs though.

The one "weakness" I see, and I hate to call it that bc it's so easily fixable, is that he throws a hair behind guys when he's throwing right side. Go watch the vid of all his throws and you'll see it on out routes to the right. Definitely not something I see hurting him though.

A poorly hatched thread.

So you're saying its impossible for Etling to over throw wide open WR's by 10 yards?

Good lord what does it take to make you people happy, he is accurate, has pocket awareness, moves out the pocket well, he is pretty consistent, and his arm really isn't that weak, compared to Harris yes but what would you rather have an inaccurate strong arm or a consistent accurate fairly strong arm.

I thought the biggest complaint against BH6 was that he could not complete 10 yard passes which allowed the opponents to stack the box.

Etling seems to be doing okay with the 10 yard passes. What more do you think he needs?

I think Etlings arm is fine. Sometimes he just CHOOSES TO float some passes that he shouldn't. The coaches will get that fixed, I think. I'm just so fricking happy that we have a qb that can get the ball to our receivers. I'm happy for our receivers as well.

I think his throws look a lot like matt Ryan's. His throws are definitely softer with a little more loft, but he is really effective with it. When I see it in the air I'm like wtf, but then it hits the receiver where he needs it.

For out routes, passes look like they are in the air well before the break, and the wr turns and it's just there. It's a more catchable ball too

Deep passes look overthrown, but take forever to get there and the wr runs right under it at the end(when he connects)

Who cares if his arm is weak as long he completes passes and is accurate

Accuracy > arm strength. Danny Wuerfull is a prime example.

The deep ball is perhaps not the most accurate measure of a QB's arm strength, but its really the only one that we have as fans, that is not subjective. I looked back at as many of Harris long throws as I could find, and there were none that traveled over 55 yards in the air. In the few samples that we have of Etling, when he was throwing a deep ball, his balls also reached the 55 yard mark. We really haven't gotten many chances to see him "drive" the ball on deep outs and such, but that would be more of a subjective measure anyway. Take it for what its worth.

No, he's actually done that a few times too.

This is actually an interesting point. I've noticed on swing passes, bubble screens, and other passes in the flats that our WRs and RBs seem to "waiting" on the ball and nearly botching the catch lately. I believe that has to do with Etling having more touch than Harris who traditionally threw it stiff regardless of the situation. The timing seems off but should get better as they get more looks from Etling in practice. I believe Etling is delivering it more accurately, but I think the RBs and WRs are used to balls that are coming in with more velocity and the result has been relatively easy plays that looked harder than necessary.

I'll see if I can get some gifs later to document what I'm discussing.

I wouldn't say weak but his deep ball isn't overly impressive compared to some guys we've had recently. Dude can thread the needle though and takes some risks which is more important to me

Exactly.

Just no. Hatch was almost an intramurals-level QB.
