Would you rather the worlds strongest arm with no touch or a "weak" arm that completes great throws and puts the ball where it needs to be?

Step away and enjoy some above average (for LSU) offensive play.

He doesn't have a cannon like Harris, but.....

TD pass to Chark was thrown from opponent's 45yd line and hit Chark about 8-9yrds deep in the endzone. That's a weak arm?

He reminds me (slightly, but still...) of another Purdue QB that plays in Louisiana.

I did notice a few of his balls seemed to hang. Made me nervous for future games.

Very true and definitely something to work on. But his short and intermediate passing are great.

OP is correct, and you are a knucklehead!

Etling's arm strength is a weakness. In the NFL it could be fatal. In college it takes away some things but is not a big issue. Guys are wide open in college. You just have to be accurate.

I don't know if he's got a weak arm but he seems to struggle some with throws over a medium distance. He's been lights out in short to intermediate stuff. But in the JSU game, he had a few deep balls to Dupre that were underthrown (the one in the end zone was intercepted because of it). Then in the State game he over threw several of the longer passes.

Maybe it's a timing issue and he'll get it worked out with more practice and playing time. The touchdown pass to Chark was perfectly placed and sat right down over Chark's shoulder.

People keep saying this but it's because Harris has brainwashed this fan base. Etling made some throws that had to go, not try to comprehend this, OVER LBs and IN FRONT of DBs. You don't do that by crow hopping a fricking 100mph fastball into the 3rd row.

As I said in a previous post, he's thrown some deep outs from the pocket that arrived well before a breaking defensive back. I think that says plenty about the adequacy of his arm strength.

He seems to have a noodle arm and throws balls that will be dangerous against more talented athletes.

I'd compare his arm to Andrew Hatch?

No these were throws that he needed to zip in there. They hung, and I saw flashes of Bama DBs going for 6.

you probably suck to hang out with

Deep balls are a terrible judge of arm strength. Anthony Jennings throws a beautiful deep ball, but the majority of his throws didn't have enough zip to be successful in our offense.

That being said, Etling has made some throws that show some arm strength. He's almost made some with a lot of touch that resembled an Anthony Jennings throw. Hopefully he's cognizant of when the floater can put us in a bind. Watching his throws thus far kinda looks like throwing off the back foot thing.

He puts a lot of air under the ball but hopefully the WRs will all grow a pair by the time we start playing superior defensive talent because we will need to be able to fight for some balls in traffic rather than play like we're 5'9" and afraid to come down with the ball in a fight.

A strong arm doesn't mean shite if it doesn't end up where it needs to be.
