Etling is happy.
Canada is happy.

LSU fans are happy.
Rantards on TD are crying for BHarris.

Such is life.

To be fair, the starters were consistently abismal during that stretch.

In order for LSU to win the west and make it to the SEC Championship, they have to beat Bama. Danny Etling is not going into Tuscaloosa and beating Bama. It's pretty simple.

With his being thrown onto the frying pan with little actual practice reps with the first unit, if any all, Etling performed above & beyond as far as I am concerned. Every thing he was successful at came from on the job training. Regardless of who else is on the roster & SEC ready, I feel a lot more comfortable with him at QB than anyone else in the past 3-4 years.

Yet, you can be found in every Harris thread crying as well. Solid analysis

I think, regardless of who wins the starting position, that we should be happy Brandon Harris is returning.

Competition breeds excellence and this will be an open competition in a brand new system where everyone is starting from scratch. New route trees, new progressions, new audibles, etc. We have 3 realistic choices at QB in Harris, Etling, and Scott and I trust Canada to make the correct choice.

Etling will surprise people next year. He may lack arm strength but it's been a while since I've seen a QB with his poise, toughness, pocket awareness, and decent mobility.

He's also got a quick release. People don't recognize the raw talent simply because of the lack of arm strength.

Honestly, he's almost prototypical for what we would want. In a perfect world his arm would be a bit stronger (which would hopefully lead to more accuracy downfield and he'd be a better runner (his speed is sufficient...he just doesn't have the running skillset to protect himself).

Interesting opinion. But a coach evaluates with his on eyes. Simply no way for Canada to know how these guys will perform in his system, until he plugs then into his system.

I disagree. The reason that the likes of Herman and Canada were pursued, was to do just that. Start a new.

As I suspected. You're not a football guy. The Constitution is irrelevant. Fairness is irrelevant. Who you (are I) prefer is irrelevant. Canada's desire to determine who gives his offense the best chance to succeed, and LSU the best chance to win, is relevant.

Maybe it's hard for you to conceive. But there is that possibility, that Canada chooses someone other than your fav QB.

Even though he lacks arm strength he makes good decision. I would rather a smart quarterback(who lacks arm strength) over a athletic quarterback who makes stupid decisions. You don't have to be a great quarterback at Lsu when your surrounded by good running backs and good wide receivers. We just need you to get the ball to them lol. Play calling was the down fall for a lot of our issues.

Agreed. Given the surrounding talent, it would be nice to have both. Athletism + Decision making. Spring time is the time to explore

There's no Canada like Matt Canada,
He's the best Canada in the land.
The other Canada is hardly Canada.
If you lived here for a day, you'd understand.

Harris spent over a year showing that he can not transport his almighty talents into actual game situations.

Etling can.

Who are you to say that Harris is so gifted and great, and that Etling is so incompetent.

Yes, but he can't run fast enough and doesn't have enough "Swag" for many in the Diaper Brigade on here that have never actually played a down of organized football in their lives...........

Which Diaper Brigade? Over 80 or under 30? Never mind, the word "Swag" gives it away!

Harris has no pocket presence. He'll have to reinvent himself totally to become a decent QB. Raw skills don't always mean better QB.

Harris

54% ----- 2,756 yards ---- 7.9 yds/attempt ---- 20tds ---- 10ints ---- 2/1 td/int ratio ---- 134 rating

10-5 as a starter

66.67% winning pct

60% ---- 1906 yards ----- 7.9 yds/attempt ---- 9 tds----- 4 int ----- 2.25td/1 int ratio ----- 135 rating

6-3 as a starter

66.67% winning pct

Same win pct. Both beat bad teams and lost to the good ones. So, I disagree with your post

You forgot to add "Not good at playing QB".

Etling is a lot better, but that's not saying a whole lot.

They both have weaknesses that are going to be very difficult to overcome in order to beat Bama. Brandon is inaccurate on short route passes and under pressure and Etling is not a very "athletic" guy.

I would personally like to see the competition completely open up even for incoming freshmen. I would take a few freshmen mistakes if we are grooming a 3 year starter. I don't foresee Etling or Harris getting things done in high pressure big games.
