Production + elite athleticism + high character is the holy grail and that’s what this kid was.

Massive frick up.

Actually it was Les Miles' doing. O tried to fix it after it was too late.

Yeah, nothing says high character like holding a grudge against a school, because the previous coach didn't offer him sooner

Even football wise this isn't really true. He wasn't playing over Guice as a freshman. Last year he would have been the #1 guy at LSU, but would it have mattered in the W/L column? I doubt it and even if maybe he does help us beat say A&M, we're just 11-2 ranked #6 instead of 10-3. And clearly he would not have impacted the W/L record this year he just would have been over Clyde who probably goes else where. All's well that ends well. Lets quit acting like Les Miles is the only coach that's missed on an in state recruit. It will happen to O at some point if it hasn't already, no one bats 1.000

Don’t blame him. LSU dropped the ball.

Can't remember a more serious Travis Etienne in media availability than today. On Orgeron expressing regret this week over his recruitment: "I can't find validation in that because I'm not out here looking for validation from other men, honestly."

That's just religious black speak -- "Only God Can Judge Me"

He seeks validation only from God.

Pretty much. Write and print/post what will sell. Sadly the truth/facts don't always make money!

Why should he be pissed, we screwed up, we admitted it, praised him and it was worked out pretty well for him. Would he be better to have been processed if we actually landed the other kid???? Nobody lied to anyone, he did get an offer but chose to honor his previous commitment. An honorable decision.

It worked out for him, it worked out for us. It’s was another Miles mistake. Nobody that knows anything is pissed at him and we weren’t at the time, everyone was mad at Les. He got fired.

After we destroy Clemson I wish him well.

I remember him recruitment well and when O took over Les he said that the board was already set at that point and he would continue on that path. Now he did eventually offer Ettiene but when he initially took over O didn't know he'd get the job permanently so he didn't rock the boat much because relationships had already been established.

As for Ettienes comments, who cares? If that is all that can get him motivated, which it isn't, then he's in bad shape. That motivation would go away quickly one he gets hit in the mouth.

Also on Ettienes saltiness on being slowplayed, it's hypocritical. Firstly, he was committed to TAM for quite a bit and changed his mind. So he wasn't sure about things either so why hold LSU more accountable that himself? Secondly, Clemson offered after we did. So it's only us he held responsible for slow playing him. Seems like someone who felt entitled to get an LSU offer instead of someone interested in earning it. Therefore he and his actions speak no better for his recruitment than us slowplaying him.

So first his mom says she got death threats, gets asked to provide proof, abruptly goes quiet and now the kid is crying about his recruitment 3 years ago when he felt he wasn’t offered quickly enough and chose to go elsewhere despite being offered to come here?

Yep, sounds like a classy family

It’s been stated many times in here, but we’ll tell you again. Clemson offered weeks after LSU, after they lost out on someone they wanted more than Etienne.

He should be madder at Clemson for recruiting him later than LSU did. Don’t let the facts get in the way of a good story.

Zero fks given. He's a Clemson RB. He got an offer from LSU before he got the offer from Clemson. He was an afterthought for them too.

In less than a week we exorcise the demons of the 2011 season.

So he’s saying he feels “disrespected”.

Gee, I wonder where he picked that up....

Les Miles didn’t want him

The more that time has passed on this, and given Justin Vincent's comments, I've started to wonder more and more if it wasn't Miles who was the roadblock. Perhaps it was Cam Cameron, the OC at the time. He seemed to really conflict with other staff members (notably Steve Ensminger) on the types of offensive players we should be recruiting. He was also immediately relieved of duty by Ed Orgeron when O took over. I'm wondering if maybe coach Cam was the one who pushed Etienne down the board thinking that he needed a big bruising back like Leonard to make his offense work. I have no inside knowledge ... just tossing out a thought that it might not have been Miles on this one.
