That’s not entirely accurate, it’s that he could choose to have a number and come back to try and be a legit 1st even as a senior. Not that he didn’t have the talent to go this high.

But no, the argument leading into the draft was whether Frey would be a 3-5 round pick. Many people were convinced it was impossible because he had very limited reps on defense in games here. Others said it didn’t matter because he had shown the athleticism to play a corner outfield spot. Guess who was wrong?
