trust me, the O loyalists are already setting this up as an Aranda failure. they will point to Ensminger being a new OC, having new personnel on offense and will give them every pass imaginable. Aranda will receive no quarter from them and he will be aggressively criticized for his defenses not being able to hold back opponents, even though we will lose games because of this offense.

it's a narrative that is already set up and in motion.

Why were the expectations so much higher under Miles if he was a terrible coach???

I've strongly suspected that the administration doesn't want to put out the necessary effort and expense to continue competing at the very highest level.

If you look at it that way, you had to get rid of Miles (who had won titles), and not replace him with a highly regarded coach (who we'd expect to win titles).

The vast majority of money made in the SEC comes from TV deals. Given the distribution parity, as long as someone (Alabama) remains dominant, everybody gets a big payday. It's quite likely that you will have a higher profit margin if you simply ride on their coattails, instead of chasing them actively. And once the buyouts come off the books, that margin will climb.

It's pretty interesting that we hired a cheap guy, that in his second season we already have excuses forming to justify a mediocre result. The complaint with Miles was that it was too long since our last national title, and that it was too long since we were contending for our next one.
The O situation now enables people to say "he has to rebuild", and praise him for the same 9 win season people skewered Miles for.

In short, the administration has no interest in competing with Bama, the value isn't there. It has nothing to do with winning or competing. This was a business decision above all. I've been saying as much as well.

Nobody's praising him, believe me. We had a joke of a schedule last year and we still only won 9 games. So I don't think 9-3 is even a remote possibility this year.

O could go 0-8 in the SEC this year and the usual suspects on here would still say he's better than Miles and doesn't need to be fired. These people are Ed Orgeron fans, not LSU fans and there are more of them than you think.

I said during the les miles era that LSU’s willingness to accept mediocrity will be its downfall. Well LSU proved me wrong when they fired miles. Then, they completely fail at the coaching search and hire Coach O even though he had just lost a chance to play in the sugar bowl on a goal line play against Florida. I knew at that point that the problem was much bigger than the coach. Until the higher ups are changed, I expect nothing but continued mediocrity.

So the Troy and MSU games had absolutely nothing to do with the team being prepared to play by the head coach? It was all depth and talent issues lol.

That's because in their infinite wisdom they were unaware of how much damage Les Miles left O. As they assumed wrongly that Miles left O with plenty of depth. They assumed very wrongly.

The link you posted said 6-6 is possible but 8-4 is more realistic. I agree with 8-4 with the possibility of being competitive in 2 more.

The key for them is maintaining the facade of wanting to be an elite program and win. So long as people still believe they care, or that we have a chance, things will remain the same because the money will continue to roll in.

Let us just stick to the basics.

We fired Les Miles
We hired O

Any questions?

Football ticket sales account for more revenue than LSU's share of the TV rights. LSU brings in over $40 million in gameday revenue between tickets, parking and concessions. That $40M can easily become $30M or worse if the administration is willing to settle for 7 and 8 win seasons. So how does it make sense for the them to intentionally hire a cheap coach and save $2-3 million a year on that salary, when they'll lose 5x that amount of revenue when attendance falls off because the quality of the product doesn't justify the cost of attendance.

Defense has for the most part been great for the last 8 years and has gotten us absolutely nothing. Offense and QB play will be the key to the season. Lucky for us i'm thinking our OL will be a strength this year.

Exactly. Can you even think of an off-season since 2008 where the defense wasn’t hyped? Seems like the d is always stacked but the offense has all the question marks in the preseason.
