Yep, and it's the same way all over the country. So, for the next couple of weeks, when people hear "LSU", they won't think about the best team in the country, they'll think about drug-related suspensions. Opposing coaches will use it in recruiting while talking to worried parents of prospects, media types will use it to discredit our accomplishments, and people who don't know or care much about LSU will have something negative to associate with it instead of just the positive of a great season. Just another way these guys have hurt the team and the school.

You use the word "mistakes". I do not think it means what you think it means. "Mistake" implies something unintentional or accidental. Willful and intentional violation of laws and rules is not a "mistake".

call it an "error in judgement" then. Are we in a downward spiral into mediocrity again?

Well, they are 19 and 20, so still developing good judgement. To quote Jim Croce" But I was young and too proud at the time.
Now I look to myself and find,
I learn the hard way everytime."

Thus, the team concept is what these players need to learn. Again, and unfortunately, they have not learned these life lessons. Hopefully, this will be a learning lesson for these players and they can all move on to become better people in the long run.

That would be the hope, but the social media comments by Mathieu quoted on the rant, if they accurately portray his state of mind, would suggest otherwise. All of them have been about himself, the effect it will have on him, his desire not to be criticized, he will learn from it and become stronger, etc. Nothing about the harm he's done to his team. No recognition of it, let alone remorse. Someone who understands the team concept would normally be expected to devote most of his thoughts and communications at this time to the well-being of the team.

But then I haven't read all the posts on this board, and I certainly don't follow athletes, celebrities or anyone else on twitter or facebook, so maybe he has expressed this somewhere and I just haven't seen it.

This. And I keep hearing that these players will learn from their mistakes. That does appear to be the case. The JJ situation should have been a HUGE wake up call for this team. Which player is going to be the next to make another "mistake"?

There hasn't been another bar fight that I'm aware of. There will be plenty over the next 100 years. They are people first. Just like you make or have made a bad judgment at home or on the job or with kids or just in general. It was just that. There will be different kinds of serious bad judgments made continually. And the same problem repeated by different people. Not just at LSU but everywhere all over the U.S., in the military, in positions of authority, in the workplace, outside the workplace, and again in your own home. People always make them.

Yeah, I would say shitty judgement is the heart of the matter. They made their bed, unfortunately the whole team has to lay in it.

It's called Stupid!! And as Bill Engvall says, "You can't fix stupid". I find it highly unlikely that anyone forced them to do what they did! You have to be held accountable for your actions! Unfortunately, in this case the whole team will be held accountable! Why do I call it stupid? Because everyone, these included, had the Shady's incident to see what can happen when you make an error in judgement. When you know your actions will bring bad on you and your team and you do it anyway-STUPID!!! And if this causes them to be suspended for the remainder of the year, so be it. I just hate it for their teammates!

It's also an opportunity for other teammates who have done the right thing. Many made that same argument for Lee. Whose to say the team may not benefit from this as well? I believe people can learn from bad decisions, but I also believe others can benefit from your bad decisions.

These people love to be miserable, don't they? I'm 29 years old and I still regularly make errors in judgement.

Yeah, starting your post off with a redneck comedian reference is not going to help your cause.

Jester, I'm 44 years old and I still make errors in judgement. We all do, its part of being a human. Point is, when the decisions I make affect me and me only, it is one thing. However, when my decision is going to affect people around me, I try to take that into consideration. Does that mean I make the right decision, prolly not all the time, but the one I make is the one I think is best. These guys knew the consequences of bad judgement, but they evidently felt the instant gratification was greater than the risk of being caught. That is why I say it was stupid. Stage is much bigger for them.

This is so true, especially with the way the season started due to "brawl"....players can only think as far as their next practice.

Yeah, but getting caught is a mistake - definitely unintentional. Now - if you know, for a fact, you're going to get caught and do something bad - maybe Calvinism suggests you intended to get caught. I don't buy into that - if you know you're going to get caught, but do it anyway, you're 1.) Dumb, 2.) Willfully disobedient, 3.) Do not fear the consequences, 4.) The rewards outweigh the consequences or some combination of the 4 - and if it is drugs, alcohol or gambling that is getting you in trouble, you may have a problem.
