the constant jerking off of players like Zion makes me inherently hate the player

That was 25+ years ago. Mostly different personnel, and different dynamics at ESPN, now.
Hell, I have been a Red Sox fan for years, but I almost hate the Red Sox over the fawning coverage they have received on ESPN for the last 15 years. Yes I realize New York and Boston are the epicenters of Major League Baseball, but the almost OVERcoverage of Boston and the Yankees has turned me off to a great extent.
