This is the current front page of the college fb section.

Beyond the big three, there is a fourth team that could control its own destiny, and it's not one of the unbeatens: It's No. 9 LSU. Road To The BCS » BCS standings » Bowl Projections » Rank 'em »

How can you "could" control your own destiny? I thought "control your own destiny" was a black and white issue, there is no "could", certainly not for a #9 team.

We control our own destiny with regards to getting into the SEC CG. Not with the MNC. Only the #1 and #2 BCS teams - and in cases where the #1 and #2 teams are scheduled to play each other, the #3 team - "control their own destiny"

Not really, after the total domination the SEC put down against the past 3 years and the majority of the SEC wins it bowl game. A one loss -SEC team CAN make it to the BCS NCG. It's props to us.

In college football no one "controls their own destiny" for the MNC. The voters control the teams' destinies.

Of course LSU "can" - but LSU doesn't "control their own destiny" - LSU is not guaranteed a spot in the NC if they win-out.

while technically true, I think its possible to make a call in certain situations. For instance - its clear that Bama and Florida control their own destinies. If either of those teams win out there is a near 100% chance they will get selected.

Your "poll position" counts - we've seen this happen all the time.

we are a fanbase that believes ESPN hates us. Ironically they're giving us some love in this article and we still question it.

a one loss SEC champion is not going to get blocked out of the BCS NC game after the way the SEC has dominated that game in recent years.

Sure we will, if we beat Alabama, that's the number 2 team down. We win out against ole Miss and Ark we face florida. We beat florida (that's the number 1 team btw) and our schedule and conference get's the nod. Maybe as a number 2 but that's about it. Remember even with two loss we leap over USC and Georgia.

Gary Danielson Already said the seed will be like this.

Seed 1- Unbeaten SEC team

Seed 2- Unbeaten Texas

Seed 3- One Loss SEC team

Seed 4- One loss USC

If texas lose even ONE game they are out of the picture. If USC lose another they are out too. Iowa might have had a chance to play for one had Ohio not drop the ball back to back in 2006 and 2007.

while it isn't black n white- you won't be the #9 team for long if you beat the #1 & #2 teams in country away from home.

It's pretty simple. Given the current standings win and win with swagger and you are in the BCS NC game.

If..and lets face it it is a BIG IF - LSU wins out they don't get into the BCS NC game if Texas and Iowa remain unbeaten. Facts are Tex. and Iowa at 3/4 will move to 1/2 if LSU beats Florida in SEC CG. LSU would be 3.

I think that not matter what TCU, Boise, and Cincy do, they will get passed by LSU. Maybe USC too. If Iowa loses, LSU controls its own destiny imo.

In other words, if LSU wins out, they go to the MNC game regardless of what anyone else does. That mya not be 100% true statement, but its close.

A zero team SEC champ got the shaft in 04. Poll position matters. We are 9. Our only guarantees at this point is that we have the opportunity to take two out of the top 9 (assuming bama and florida don't drop other games), making us #7. If teams #3-#6 do not lose a game - we will have to jump 4 times.

if a 1 loss team goes over an undefeated BCS team that is fricked up. I would not let my bias deny an undefeated team from a power conference. It would have to be the computers which are designed to also try to be unbiased.

I hope this is err on the side of caution. The SEC will not be left out unless Bama or Florida slips prior facing one another or LSU running the table. If either wins out or LSU beats either during the attempt Iowa is done.

P.S. Your statement is not a fact. It is a hypothetical because complex mathematics teaches me so.

An undefeated Iowa would get picked over a 1 loss LSU.

Texas undefeated.

Iowa undefeated.

End of your theory.

You'd need either Iowa or Texas to lose (possibly Cincy, too). So, that's not controlling your own destiny. Only 3 teams right now truly control their own destiny: UF, Bama, and Texas. If they win out, they're in the NCG. Everyone else needs at least a little help.
