If..and lets face it it is a BIG IF - LSU wins out they don't get into the BCS NC game if Texas and Iowa remain unbeaten. Facts are Tex. and Iowa at 3/4 will move to 1/2 if LSU beats Florida in SEC CG. LSU would be 3.

I think we'd jump Cincy and TCU if we went undefeated.
Don't think we'd jump Iowa or Texas.
USC is a non-issue. We would play an extra game than they do. That extra game would likely be against the number 1 team in the country. Plus, you have to look at the teams that we played in common. Hmmm...we went to Wash and beat the team that beat them. Don't see how the computers wouldn't help us tremendously with that one.

While we certainly may not jump to no1 if we win out, chances are we would. Just think about the strength of schedule, and the chances of other top teams being beaten.

Disagree... LSU definately controls their own destiny at the moment. There is no way that if LSU wins out and wins the SEC championship that they will be left at home...
We're #9. We are only guaranteed a shot at 2 of the top 8 teams, assuming we win-out (or that one or both of those two will find their own ways out of the top 8).
The playoff bracket is only 2 teams big. You do understand this, right?
We "control our own destiny" with regards to the SEC CG and with regards to getting to the #7 BCS spot. To get better than that we'll need extra help.

Me too, but its a bit too late to go undefeated now.

Do you know why the computer rankings weight was changed after 2003? Because USC got left out and a BCS more heavily weighted in favor of human polls would have got them in. that's pretty much why they changed the BCS - USC didn't get in.
You think if that had been Auburn, or Boise St., or Virgnia Tech, that had gotten the shaft in '03 - they would have changed the entire system? No!
The point - the BCS is designed to give USC an advantage. Had today's ranking system been employed in 2003, the match-up would have been USC-LSU.

I think you knew what I meant.

That's all good and well, but I don't think it would be enough to counter the extra game that we play. I think we'd sway enough human voters and certainly the computers if we were to knock off the number one team in the country while they didn't play a game. Plus, you still have to look at the losses. USC lost to UW (whom we beat) and we had one loss to the #1 team (whom we will have beaten in the SECCG).
I don't know how any pollster would have a leg to stand on in that situation. However, LSU has a long way to go before we should legitimately have this conversation.

If LSU beats an undefeated bama and an undefeated Florida they are a lock.

How can you control destiny anyway? the word destiny refers to a predetermined course of events. No one can control destiny, not even Bama.

This.
We jump Iowa if we win out. They may, and I stress may, have one win over a top 10 team. We would have wins over two #1s in four weeks, plus an extra game, and the push of being the champion of the best conference in the country. Pollesters still largely determine who gets in the MNC (remember 2007) and no one wants to watch a mediocre Big Ten team get absolutely demolished in the National Title Game.
At this point, I'd be more worried about our ability to jump USC than Iowa.
For Iowa to get in they need:
1) Texas and USC to lose
or
2) a two loss SEC team win the conference and either Texas or USC lose.
