He pitched very well. Located the ball nicely, changed speeds. The only run scored against him was in the 4th, right after he was pulled from the game.

ETA: it may have been the 5th when the 1st run scored.

Is he still on a low pitch count. Watched him last weekend against Cal, was locating well and letting his defense make plays then he sorta ran out of gas. I’m pretty sure he is still building up his stamina after that long injury rehab.

This seemed like his best performance so far.

But, the fastball still isn't there. And, they were pretty quick to pull him once he showed signs of trouble.

His velocity hasn't gotten back to the upper 80s occasional 90 either. I'm hoping he'll have that by late April or May.

I can’t really remember velocity before he was injured but he was not a hurler but his best attributes was he could move the ball around the zone with all his pitches and his control was very good

Yeah, I’d say they are limiting his pitches. I don’t think they really want to stretch him out just yet.

I did hear on the way home that Hillard pitched in relief. Good news, hopefully they can all get healthy in due time. You cannot have enough arms

He threw 42-45 pitches well. Then, he started walking guys. Looks like 45-55 pitches is tops for EW right now

Walker didn’t walk anybody today. He hit a batter in the first or the second but otherwise, he did a great job. He gave up two solidly hit singles in the fifth, got an out while Beck warmed up and then Paul pulled him.

Fastball was generally 86-88 pre-injury. Now it’s been sitting at 84-86.

I don’t think he’s necessarily on a pitch count. He just hasn’t been good the 3rd time through the order.

Which I think falls on stamina and not being stretched out yet but it looked like Paul fully intended to try to stretch him today but he started to get hit around and Paul wasn’t willing to put the game in jeopardy.

Walker threw 51 pitches, 37 for strikes and 14 balls. He had no walks, but he hit one batter and had 5 Ks.

He pitched 4 1/3 innings and gave up 3 hits & 1 run which was earned.

The runner who scored was on third base when Beck came in to relieve Walker with one out in the 5th inning.

The first hitter Beck faced sac bunted for the second out of the inning to score the runner on third. Beck struck out the next batter to end the 5th inning.

Not to inject facts into the discussion, but Walker did not walk one runner on balls. His strong suit has been his control and his control was very good today. Out of 51 pitches, he threw 37;strikes. That would be only 14 pitches that were balls. He faced 17 batters so that’s less than one ball per batter average. This was an excellent outing for Walker.

Hilliard was the one who struggled with control, throwing 22 pitches with 11 balls.

MPH per pitch is highly over rated stat for pitchers in college. Movement and control are more important. An 85 mph fastball with a tail on it low in the strike zone is much harder to hit than a flat 95 mph fastball up in the zone.

LSU has the hardest throwing staff I can ever remember this year in terms of how hard they throw. The problem this year has been control with the staff. Our fast ballers get behind in the count and then try to over power batters with fastballs. Our coaches need to figure out what throwers we have that can be developed into pitchers.

Walker is a pitcher. This was a good outing for him. Who cares how hard his fastball is if he can hold teams to won run every four innings.
