why would you wish bad things on people that havent had a single effect on your life except positive?

you love lsu and ER had some great
memories at lsu.
his kneeling during a song had no negative effect on your life and you hope he goes broke?

so whats wrong with the owners of a private company having the right to hire who they want? and for the record i never had a problem with their protesting and never once tried to act like it was in any way directed at the military.

It seems antithetical to me that we exercise the freedom of speech and it’s one of a basic tenets, but if you actually have an opinion that is a popular that people don’t like your castigated, you’ve thrown into the fire. It just seems hypocritical that we at now is that we have the freedom to express ourselves to say what you want and it’s meant to protect us from the government, sure.

But it was a consequence free action that had no direct impact on anyone. Saying “Well, I won’t hire you because of your protest” is totally different. It’s affecting his way of life.

I’m not saying teams should or shouldn’t do anything. Just it’s like, you don’t get freedom of speech unless you’re willing to suffer for it. Unless your boss just happens to agree with you.

At least he is only out of a job. In primitive countries like mine, people that dont stand for the anthem are subject to public lynching. But then that's because my people are all savages anyway.

peacefully protesting isnt in the same realm as murdering someone even if its done with the entire world population watching. my god bruh.
dead wrong, Rick. Of course it matters. If Kap and Reid were protesting on their own time, few people would care.

But when they do it in front of paying customers during an apolitical entertainment event, and particularly during our national anthem, it makes a massive difference.

Surely you can understand that.

Sounds like a personal problem. People are tired of politics and sports. When the consumer doesn’t want it, why would an owner sign him with his type of baggage?
Nailed it.

Ohhhh, actions have consequences. Guess what, Eric, we have the right to protest, too.

this has nothing to do with "freedom of speech" which only means the GOVERNMENT can't punish you for your speech. Private employers can limit speech any way they want.

And if an employee chooses to protest, they must be prepared for blowback. You don't get to say what you want, free of consequences.

This is true and during WWII my father spent 4 years, 10 months, 28 days in the south Pacific fighting to help assure we had this freedom.

So, even though Eric Reed and and anyone else can certain exercise their freedoms....but not honoring our flag...well they can all kiss my arse.

Him being foolish enough to think he can run his mouth about general managers and their beliefs should keep him unsigned. Good for him. You don’t own the teams, only your conduct so congrats to your career. It’s a hard pill to swallow, nobody wants you to play anymore. Kneel at your house, and I used to be one of your biggest fans

systemic oppression

This isn't 1950 and Jim Crow. Currently we have only one law on the books that is directly oppressive to people of a certain race and that law is known as Affirmative Action.

Well deserved. He can stay his arse away from our Tigers while he's enjoying his unemployment. No one needs that negative shite around their team.

I think most people can agree that this protest produced no tangible benefit and only served to drive another wedge between society. If NFL players wished to produce a positive outcome they could have sponsored a forum with police and members of the African-American community to try to develop a better understanding of issues between the police and minority communities.

13% of the US population commits more than 50% of the homicides in this country. We could start there and go on all night with this stuff.

Luziana you are so misguided and you need to look in the mirror to see a racist. You call anyone who doesnt agree with your BS racist. You dont understand restrictions in the workplace or the Second Amendment.

It's several others have said, he and others can say whatever they want and do whatever they want, but there's always a consequence.

I keep seeing that like it's some kind of law, but it isn't. There isn't ALWAYS a consequence. Sometimes you can actually commit crimes, like beating the shite out of your wife, and there's no consequence. Play on.

People are just throwing these platitudes around like they mean something. They don't.

Crowd: The Anthem is a time when we come together and feel national unity.

Player: That's just it, some of us aren't feeling the unity.

Crowd: Shut up and play so we can watch you give each other concussions.

...looks like to me what's going on.

Uuummmm it’s pretty well know that owners/GMs make decisions based on locker room behavior.

For instance, sometimes they will overpay for a veteran that otherwise wouldn’t have a contract because of their locker room attitude, maturity, and experience

On the other hand, they are known for shunning players who are locker room distractions because of drugs, immaturity, suspensions, and in this case Reid’s vocal protest of the national anthem

So this is nothing new, and definitely not racist. Reid is a moron.

the African-American community

Another term coined to be divisive. Few, if any, of the black people protesting are from Africa. Black Americans need to shelve the hyphenated adjectives and just be Americans. That in itself would go a long way in today's society.

Does any other country have black people that consider themselves hyphenated?

I've never once heard someone say I am African-Jamaican, African-German or African-French. Hyphenated Americanism is a disease. Just be proud to be an American and leave it at that. Or---get out.

They aren’t feeling the unity?

You mean the 20-25 year old kids that are making more than 99.99999% of the country for playing a game?

Black people make up 13% of the population, but 90% of the NFL is made up of black millionaires. Does that sound like a racist league to you?

Reid just handled his situation like an immature idiot. Why didn’t they just protest on their own time? Start a foundation, hold community meeting.... ON YOUR OWN TIME!

My employer would be pissed too if I was focused on societal problems when he is paying me to work
