From reading this thread i've learned that nobody knows what happened....but people are making assumptions that fit their agenda.

Point was covered, if the kid thought he had a full ride this year and all of a sudden didn't it's a bush league move. He could have stayed, but it could have been handled better as well.

No really bush league because greyshirts happen and must happen in certain circumstances. Not a year but a semester. That is just the name of the game in college football.

at the end of the day this was porter's decision, asking him to wait a semester to enroll and take a hike are 2 totally different things. Porter doesn't want to wait and will go elsewhere.
Good luck to him.

yea bush league if the kid was given notice 24 hrs before Fall camp started as reported
Posted on 8/3/10 at 5:21 pm to Books
Where are you getting 24 hours from because that is not the case and this is when greyshirts are usually handed out across the country. Comes with the territory. Camp starts tomorrow not today...
BTW, Porter still hasn't made an official decision so you may be hurting more than him.

I have not read all of this thread nor will I nor will I pass judgement, but this type of situation can do nothing but put any school in a bad light from a recruiting standpoint.
When a prestigous program like LSU overrecruits and then excludes players, especially from a relative hotbed recruiting area in Louisiana-- like the Westbank of NOLA-- it will have ramifications.
Other coaches at competing schools will use this to their advantage.
The last thing Miles wants to do in a talent-rich, but small state like Louisiana is burn bridges.
While LSU hauls in talent yearly it is not in a traditionally huge geographical footprint.
This could be an abberation, but something to pay attention to in the future.

If he goes on to become an all SEC DL, Miles should be fired!

I dont understand why you dont get Wing greyshirted.....he seems like the most obvious choice.
After that, find out who can afford it. (Assuming you aren't looking for an easy way to drop a kid that signed).

quote:Maybe they knew he would walk and wanted to use that scolly for a better OG in the 2011 class since Louisiana is deep in big men. Maybe after watching him perform in summer workouts they realize he was not as talented as many of the available OL in the 2011 class. You have no idea WTF is going on but bash the coaches and claim things are handled poorly. It's so f'n typical to find a vocal minority bashing the coaches on this board about things they have absolutely no information about.
The fact that the kid is heading elsewhere is testament to how poorly it was handled.

quote:And it you think that how it works, you don't know WTF you are talking about...but hey, don't let that stop you. The athletic department would take care of applying for grants to cover it. They don't just hand the kid and his family a bill for a year of college.
If I told you I were paying for your school, and you enrolled in classes, and a week before you're set to arrive I tell you, sorry bro, you gotta pay that first year.
How would you feel?

I am very much a miles supporter, but this is wrong, IMO. And, yeah, I dont know all the facts, but what mitigating circumstance could there be to deny a kid the full scholarship that he was offered? He did his job on the field and in the classroom. Sure, there may be stuff we dont know, but it would have to be pretty dramatic to change my opinion.

No it won't. It hasn't for anyone else.
EVERYONE does this.
I'm just shocked that so many people think this is some crazy thing Miles just came up with.
I'm not saying it's right or wrong... I'm just saying it's one of the realities of top flight programs: they cut and run and push out players when they don't want them around anymore.
