re: Eliminating the 3 point shot

Three point shots and layups/dunks are the two most efficient forms of offense. Only a handful of players convert midrange two pointers at a high enough percentage to make it efficient on a PPS basis... and guys who can do it with long 2pt shots are rare as hens teeth.
The 3pt shooting provides excellent spacing and the more guys you have that can threaten from beyond the arc, the better it gets. The spacing allows for more opportunities at the rim with cutters and drives, which is exciting basketball. Without that part of the equation though your offense is very feast or famine and defenses can play you tighter on the perimeter. Without the spacing provided by the 3 defenses can cheat in and deny the lane.
As for the post game... I grew up a fan of the Dream and still think his game was magnificent to watch. However the Barkley rule(should be called the Shaq rule) killed that more than the three ever did. It made it very difficult to have an efficient post heavy offense. The three actually complimented that style very well, as it could be used to drag the help D far away from the post.
I add my vote to moving the line back to NBA length. It would further improve spacing and at the same time increase the importance of the inside attack since the volatility from range would be more pronounced.

I’m an advocate of removing your posting ability. Let’s get it started.

Let’s eliminate the ball too. They can pretend to shoot. Then the refs can just award the basket to whichever team they like. Oh wait.....

I would like to see it eliminated.
At the very least make it NBA distance. Not to do so is just stupid.
A lot of “grandpa” name calling on this board, but I wonder how many of the “youngsters” actually know the genesis of the three point shot.
It was a good idea at the time.
But just like unions, it has lost its usefulness.

Maybe I was just focused on Shaq. Dude couldn't hit a FT much less a 3.
Don't get me wrong, I love Shaq, but c'mon, the guy was just a shot-blocking, dunking giant. I cringed every time he put the ball on the floor.
...But I was also watching refs giving guys like Jordon a Euro step.
Shaq was probably the least skilled, from an overall fundamental standpoint, of the bigs that I mentioned, yes. But while he may not have been a graceful ball handler, he knew how to move in the post and get to the basket. You don't average 25 points per game for a career by just standing in place and dunking it like Tacko Fall. But it WAS hilarious watching Tacko dunk almost flat footed over Duke players, a few times.
As for the Euro step. Who doesn't get that in the NBA? lol.

Just move it back. It's too close to the basket.

1. no dunking - when i was in hs u could not dunk even in warm ups- 1958 grad
2. no dribbling behind the back
3. for sure - no dribbling between your legs
4. two points for two handed shot - one point for one hand
5. no passes behind your back
6. have to shot free throws with two hands - underhanded
7. bring the peach baskets back!
8. u have to look at the guy u passing to- no blind passes
9. no alley oops

"More like raise the goal a foot"
I've often wondered what kind of game it would be if somehow we LOWERED the goal to something like 3 feet off of the floor and made it so that to score you had to go through the basket from the bottom up. A totally different game! Tall folks would be at a disadvantage.

Shaq had the most proportionate big man body in the history of basketball.
He could take the ball and dribble and run full court like never seen before by a man of his size.
He was also a historic game changer.
Nobody, I mean nobody drove to the basket against Shaq.
They didn’t even try. They gave it up

If you eliminate the 3 everyone is going to go to a 2/3 zone defense to crank up defensive efficiency. The lane is going to be a cluster f

Might as well eliminate the nba, if so.
