From Dandy Don Yesterday:

quote:

Safety John Battle was not present during the media portion viewing of yesterday’s practice and so far I’ve heard no reason for his absence. In his place, freshman early enrollee Grant Delpit worked out with the No. 1s.

From Coach O's Statements about the scrimmage today:

quote:

Grant Delpit has done a good job. Very good athlete. Very good tackler. So is JaCoby Stevens. Those are two outstanding freshmen. Delpit got most of the time. I’d guess that he got 40 plays. They’re very smart. Very good students of the game. They don’t mind putting their nose in there.

Both guys are absolute studs. Also 2018 safety commit Caden Sterns is very similar to Delpit, he's not 6-3 but plays like it.

I've been saying Delpit will end up as good as Jamal Adams for a while.

Hope Delpit and Stevens end up starting which would mean they have come along mentally enough to start. They have elite physical tools. Stevens will be an absolute baller out there. Dude has speed, length and hands of a WR. Its going to be fun watching this years and last years defensive class grow together.

Well, when they are getting more reps as a true freshman than the all American did, I don't have an issue with expectations.

I normally agree. But, when our DBs start as Freshmen, they normally become All-Americans. Tre White, Jamal Adams did just that.

I spoke to his high school coach (we have mutual friends) and he can't say enough about the kid. Great-locker room guy, freak athlete, very funny!

Thinking he will be a great Tiger!

From watching his tape, the dude has elite ball skills. He reads the QB very well and has great hands to make plays. Great cover skills for a safety and isnt afraid to come in and make a hit on someone. Him and Jacoby will be our starting safetys by 2018.

Both already jumping over Eric Monroe (TX, 2016 Class)? I thought he was a stud too?

ETA: either way, sounds like a nice "problem" to have so many talented options.
