Cuz...there are more than enough boosters who would gladly cough up the 7.5 mil if he loses more than 3 of the remaining games...

I have heard that money is not the issue as well from a very prominant booster. The money could be raised with a handful of phone calls. Its about how he recovers from this mess and who is available.

IMO, that's more important than the money issue.

LSU is crying buckets over cuts, but we gonna throw millions out the window buying out a winning football coach??
One has nothing to do with the other.
We will see, but I think they do.

Said unless miles loses out, he will be back but crowton will be gone. Les has two years left on his contract and taf would owe him $7.5 million. Said taf has a $300 million debt and that they will not buy out the contract. Also said with the education cuts, they couldnt justify the buyout.
Sounds about right.
$300 million debt? Is this really true?

the athletic department and the university budget is about as separate as day is to night. Not one penny FROM THE STATE FUNDS THE ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT. and the bulk of the money comes from TAF which is totally separate from the athletic department that is about as separate as pluto is to earth. please quit making the correlation between the athletic department and the university b/c you are obviously ignorant on how both allocate and receive funds and revenue.
yes, We know. but it doesn't matter. it's a PR nightmare when you have a headline about budget cuts and employees being cut right at your flagship University next to a headline about an 8 figure buyout for an unpopular football coach.
over the summer the LSU facebook feed was probably 50/50 on ppl bitching about LSU athletics thriving while cuts were being discussed vs. ppl who knew what you had in caps.

Let's see if this makes sense. He says LSU can't afford to buyout Miles ... unless he loses the rest of the games. WTF?
Anyone believing what these clowns say are foolish.

quote:This is very important. You have to make sure you will get a good replacement. Otherwise wait and see who is available next year. Some of you think that every coach in the country is going to bang down the doors to coach here. That isnt true. If it was, that would have happened when Nick left, and we wouldnt have had to settle for Miles. First put feelers out, or see who might be interested discretely. Once you are sure you can get someone who is a good hire from another big school, or another up and comer willing to come here. Then you think about pulling that trigger and letting him go. Of course you can also argue that you fire him, hope that you get a good replacement. And worse comes to worse you just promote Gonzo or someone if you cannot get anyone else.
and who is available.

and with miles that may happen pretty soon.
When are you idiots going to stop saying this? There is more than a mile long line of people waiting for tickets. LSU will never have an attendance problem (at least from the standpoint of selling the tickets).

Think Ed meant we cannot afford it, but maybe can justify it if we lose out.

We had to settle for Miles because of the timing of Saban's departure.
What premier coach in his right mind would want to come to New Orleans Saints? Sean Payton? Who is that jackass? (/sarcasm)

You must have missed the 90s.
It'll take much more losing to run fans off, but you are fooling yourself to say attendance won't be affected if we get into 7-9 win seasons with no trips to Atlanta on a regular basis.

attendance figures for Tiger Stadium
In the 90s we were never outside the top 20 of highest attendance. While the numbers aren't as good as now, it's not as bad as you make it sound.
And I never said actual attendance wouldn't be affected. But paid attendance most likely will not be affected in this decade.

Agreed and how much will LSU pay.
Just cause Miles is getting X $$$, it isn't likely or a given that LSU will pay Miles $$$ to the next hire...whenever the next hire happens.

The athletic department and the university are two separate entities. The athletic department donates to the university, but they do not run on the same account. If the athletic department can raise the money via taf, raising ticket prices, etc, they can fire miles if they see fit.
Yes they are seperate intities but it makes no difference it is not going to happen outside a complete meltdown and I do not see it happening. Money does not grow on trees it has to come from someone's pocketbook. Because of the new Alex Box and the new additions to Death Valley and then the new windows and also the new Basketball practice arenas, TAF is stretched out. So unless there is a meltdown of all the games between now and The Hogs you will not see any buyout this year. Crowton will go and so will someone else but Miles is not going anywhere.
So you are going to price the very fans out that spend their money that uses to opperate the Athletic department. Who do you think these fans are? That is right they are you and me qand it will cost you another 1000 dollars a year for fees not the tickets then they are going to raise the price of the tickets $50 now then they will go to $75 a ticket. Can you afford to buy 4 tickets for your family at that price? That is what will happen.
Everyone on this board is complaining about the hardasses that are taking up the good seats now, that they do not cheer, they do not stay through the 4th quarter. Who do you think is going to buy up these tickets when you can not? You say you want Miles gone and when he is gone the money you spent putting him on the road is all gone so where are you going to get the money from to hire another Coaching staff from? That well is already dry and gone with Miles.
All this wanting Miles gone is just plain crazy and is exactly what it will take to tare down this program. Without you and me the regular fans that buy the jersies the tee-shirts and the caps will not happen if this program falls anymore because of having to raise ticket prices to a level that the ordinary fan cannot afford. Those are the fans that make a Saturday Night in Tiger Stadium, Death Valley. So stop and think, oh I did and we got to get another Coach Miles is crazy and it has to stop, well the powers that be need to get off their asses and do their jobs and kick Miles in the arse and tell him enough is enough. But, do not take it from the regular Joe that wants to go to a game now and then with his family, the President, the AD and whoever else is in control let them make Miles do what needs to be done. They put the pressure on him he will either give it up or he will amke the adjustments that is needed.

I would settle for ditching Crowton.
worked out well for Florida (Zook) and Auburn (Tuberville)
the problem is Miles (IMO)chemo'ing the program as opposed to cutting the losses and starting again is only going to make the problem a longer rebuild.
I think Gary and his family will be relieved to get out of here and anyone from the outside won't hold Miles against him.

So blow up the whole program, including putting the #6 defense at risk, just to fix the offense? Makes more sense to just to hire a new offensive coordinator since that's where the problems exists.
We have improved the running game which Crowton would not have affected. We have not improved the passing game with respect to finding the right ways to get our weapons the ball. We just need more creativity there.
