Presumed to be an early round selection by experts, some off the field issues drove him down to the seventh round, where Philadelphia tagged the versatile defensive back. Mills played corner his first two seasons at school and safety the last two, against the best competition in the nation every week in Southeastern Conference play. It’s that kind of preparation that Eagles coach Doug Pederson has seen so far in his team’s offseason program.
I love his competitiveness,” Pederson said. “I love the aggression that he has playing that position and he doesn’t back down from any of our veteran receivers or tight ends or any of the guys that you normally might see on a normal basis might do that. He’s challenging guys. He’s got great quickness and transition in and out of breaks, smart kid, eager to learn. Those are things that really have stood out with me.”

Since joining the Eagles, Mills has retained the skill set that endeared him to scouts: that first step off the snap, agility in open space, and the knack for throwing receivers off their rhythm off the line of scrimmage. His best season was three years ago, when he collected 67 tackles and three interceptions, and finished his LSU career with 216 total tackles and four sacks. Defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz thinks Mills checks all the marks for the defensive back he’s looking for. “He has shown he’s a very good athlete,” Schwartz said. “He can play the ball, and he’s comfortable being on an island. I think if you were check-marking things for corners, those would be three near or at the top.”

Ron Brooks is also penciled in as a starting corner for the Eagles this year. Signed a nice little contract and has a previous history with Swartz in buffalo

It's a shame he was injured his senior year and had to play under Steele. In Chavis' scheme in 2014 he was amazing.

Mills started from game 1 as a true freshman. He's gotten a ton of reps against high level competition.I expect him to adapt well to the pro game. If the Eagles use him similar to how they use Malcolm Jenkins then he could play huge for Philly.

I agree. I couldn't believe he slipped past the fourth round.
