All of this stuff will be very interesting to see over the next few years. I saw an article on Baseball America a while back talking about how some guys are going to transfer from JUCO this year and be freshmen on campus of a D1 school eligibility wise with like 3 years of experience under their belt.

Between the fall and spring seasons, two years worth of not losing eligibility, there are some guys that will play over 100 games and show up as freshmen.

There is a kid that is committed to Michigan I think that graduated early and enrolled in an Arizona JUCO to get better competition, but since this year in JUCO is a free year that doesn't count toward eligibility, he'll get to Michigan with a full season under his belt and still be a freshman.

It's going to impact D1 rosters for a while, the way these eligibility waivers have been handled.

It also makes me think that if there is a guy that's a true freshman lighting it up in JUCO right now playing against guys that have been in college for 2,3, and even 4 years, he may be worth looking at. Even at that level, outperforming older guys is a plus.

Arnold’s stats were built against non-conference opponents. Almost all of Cranford’s stats are against the SEC. Neither one are preforming at the level necessary to win. But I can definitely see why Cranford gets playing time

Arnold is 0-9 in non conference games since being sat for Cranford’s defense.

I've said for weeks I think he retires at the end of the season. I've seen or heard nothing to make me change that opinion.

I just wanna see the product on the field improve. For whatever reason, what PM is doing this season is not working. Just don't want to see the program run all the way into the ground.

Yep, all those towering popups sure do jump off the bat quickly.

pop flies don't have high exit velocities fwiw. Beloso has 11 hits in his last 23 at bats. On the season, he has the third best OBP on the team and has only struck out 12 times in 138 plate appearances, by far the best on the team. I'd rather a guy smoke the ball in play than striking in 1/3+ of his ABs. Eventually those balls start to find grass like Beloso's finally have the past couple of weeks.

I'd agree with you about soft popups, but the towering popups I mentioned absolutely have a high velocity.

His hitting has improved lately, but it doesn't cover the fact that for the majority of the season to this point he has hit a lot of popups for easy outs.

He wasn't hitting a lot of pop ups, though. He was hitting a lot of line drives right at outfielders or hard hit ground balls into the shift. A few hard hit fly balls doesn't account for that many balls hit over 100 mph, bud. I get it, you were taking a pot shot at Beloso's slow start and are now trying to make your joke work

So I just painstakingly went back through all the play-by-play accounts through lsusports.net. He is 29/112 this season which means he's gotten out 83 times. Of those 83 times, 34 were listed as some sort of flyout or pop up. That's 41% of his outs. There were only a couple instances where the play-by-play account recorded the out as a "line out." I'm sure some of the flyouts were fairly well hit, but you cannot tell me he hasn't had a bunch of towering flyballs that were just cans of corn for the outfielders.

those don’t leave the bat at 100+ mph

Cranford didn’t get his first start until SEC play. He hasn’t started one non SEC game. You can’t expect him to have a high BA. Would be nice if he got some chances to bat mid week games. He did end Leiter’s no hitter streak.

Project you know a lot more about this stuff than I do but I don't think our signing players is even close to over.

Considering we will have some starter jobs and primary closer up for grabs next year, I think it will be attractive place for top JUCO pitchers to come showcase for one year. Possibly even transfers as well.

Then of course if we do get a new coach, that can throw things all out of whack.

I agree. That’s part of the reason his stats are much lower
