Doubtful that Crowton is shown the exit after this season...

I am hoping that this thread can help stem the deluge of threads that expect for The Wizard to get the axe.
First of all, it would cost a lot of money to can Crowton. Not sure of the specifics, but it is close to $1 million. Granted, this is not enough reason to keep someone around who is perceived to be stinking up the joint, but I would imagine that LSU is being more prudent with its money since it already pays the staff a lot of money, has ambitious projects around campus and the economy stinks right now.
But I firmly believe that Miles will give Crowton at least through 2010 to fix the sinking offensive ship.
Miles will conclude that the declining offensive production is mostly attributed to the inexperience at the all-important QB position in both 2008 and 2009. With Jefferson returning as a junior, there will be expectations that the offense will have much better success than the one this year that is now ranked 107th in total offense.
Crowton led our offense to the national title in 2007, so Miles knows that Crowton has delivered the goods at one point in his short stay here.
Frankly, I think this is an valid position for him to take, but make no mistake, Crowton will certainly be on the hot seat next year. The Ryan Perilloux Dismissal Excuse will no longer be valid.
The offense was clearly too experimental this year. Nothing seemed to work. Let's hope more experience at some key positions can help the offense establish an identity like we had in 2007.

i agree 100%, but i do think there will be some coaches on the offensive side leave.

how would it cost us in the millions? he makes likes 500k a year, and aren't miles assistants given 3 year deals?

Crowton needs a 5yr senior ie. MF 2007' to be able to run his offense successfully.
2011 JL will be a 5th yr SR.
I expect an explosive offense in 2011.

he got a raise this year, i would think he probably got a contract extension with that raise.

i think the offense has a chance to be pretty damn good next year.

i was told that the the majority of the coaching staff for LSU(all sports) got a pay raise. it was an across the board deal. so maybe Crowton didnt get an extension?

Well if miles does not get rid of him then it will cost both of them their jobs next year

Agree that he'll likely be back. That means we have another year of this to look forward to. A 107th ranked offense that includes seniors like CS, KW, BL, CB?
What can hope to see next year when these seniors are replaced by underclassmen? 115th?? 120th???
Keeping the offensive staff when you're ranked in the bottom 10% of college footbal sends the message that you're okay with an offense that is less than mediocre.

It most definitely SHOULD be.
But we also had the chance to be pretty damn good this year. Instead, we're a disjointed, jumbled, sloppy mess.
Here's hoping that isn't the case again next year.

personally i dont feel he will be fired, if anything it will be handled like the defensive staff was last year. Crowton will find a HC job somewhere else or something, i just dont see us firing him. but i could see us "helping" him find a job elsewhere

quote:so, are you making the blanket statement that all seniors are better than underclassmen? Additionally, you are discounting that our QB will be one year older, as will most of our linemen.

I wasn't predicting a top SEC O, but I sure as hell wasn't predicting the 107th ranked O either.
