No one gets a pass because "so and so did this thing first". The fact is that there were a mountain of miscues and mental errors in this game, and every single one of them had an impact that cost us the game.

And this isn't a one time, midweek fluke. This team, though it has managed to keep winning series, has really regressed in a number of areas. We can make excuses for the pitching woes and blame it on injuries, but the defensive, baserunning and overall mental errors are fundamental issues, and it all boils down to focus and attention to detail. If this team has aspirations of winning a national title (and we all have those aspirations), given what our pitching situation now is, these are the things that can't persist.

What Merrifield did was one of the stupidest things I've seen on a baseball field, and I used to coach Little League.

Him lazily jogging one out to first base earlier this year that had every little leauger screaming at their dad should have been a sign

CJJ sending the pitcher to tag the runner in the dugout is what loss the game. should have called time and review the play.

The play didn’t even have to be reviewed. You just stand at the plate until he comes back to touch it or the ump eventually calls him out.

Wouldn't that have been on Millazzo? He got the error and Collins let the ball go through thinking there was a play behind him at the plate.

Milazzo fricked up as well, but his point is the it’s not Collins job to be to cutoff man. Jones is the cutoff and Collins should have been behind the plate backing up the throw.

Be mad at Travinski for not catching a routing throw to the plate

With that logic or lack thereof you could find 100 things in the game to blame it on.

Yep. The entire argument is bad.

HOW ABOUT THE UMPIRE CALLING THE RUNNER OUT THAT WAS HEADED TO THE DUGOUT

Can someone please explain this? I kissed the game but can’t seem to understand what happened here from reading these threads.

Runners on 2nd and 3rd, safety squeeze, pitcher fields the bunt, no tag on the play at the plate but the runner didn’t touch the plate on his slide either. Everyone notices the ump didn’t make a call and that he didn’t touch the plate except the pitcher and catcher, catcher tosses the ball back to the pitcher, runner is walking to the dugout, Johnson runs out of the dugout nearly to the dirt cutout of the plate screaming to go tag the runner, pitcher jogs over to tag the runner just before he steps foot in the dugout, while the trail runner scores.

Rather, pointing out that Collins had a huge hand in that loss.

Nichols played very well defensively and we played very sloppy. Not one player was the reason we lost the game. Should Merrifield have turned around to locate the ball? Yes. Should Collins have ran home once the ball was hit? Yes. But give credit to Nichols they came to play and had a lot more emotion and energy. Their defense took away 4 extra base hits and another two hits.

Now watch the team come to play with their head on fire this weekend.
