I would like to see a Southeastern Conference Marching Band Festival at the end of the season and have all 12 schools compete on the field in a scoring competition with DCI judges. Friday night before the SEC Championship game in the Georgia Dome would be an ideal time. Make it happen SEC office.
This would be awesome.

In the MDB, we rarely turn people down from actually joining band. We do have alternates for our shows and pre-game, but some not so great people still find their way on the field. Overall on sound, we can compete with anyone.... just need some music selection people will like. And a festival would be awesome, but I just don't see it getting any attention.

You are right, unfortunately. The only league where something like that would work would be the SWAC because the loud crappy noises their bands make interests their fans more than the crappy football.

Yes, they do.
1. Tiger band is static at 325 members and regularly cuts around 100 members every preseason tryout, including plenty of returning members. Other bands may be bigger (think WVU which tends around 400, though it's mostly woodwinds so they still got outpowered by the LSU pep band) but LSU is quality over quantity which leads to better sound quality. A band is only as good as the worst players.
This is really the killer point. Most bands either don't get enough applicants to turn any away or adjust their size to accommodate the amount of players trying out. Neither apply to Tiger Band.
2. Their standards are simply higher, both from fan expectation and director expectations
3. LSU's music department is distinguished enough to bring in quality players from across the country, yet the majority of the band is still non-majors. Quality is held high thanks to cuts. I might be wrong but I think LSU has the best music department in the SEC if not the entire south?
4. Tiger Band members get PAID...some bands make their members PAY to be in them. Example: Wisconsin-Madison.

This might sound extreme, and I don't know if I actually mean it, but...
The day that I hear TGBFTL play that stupid Darth Vader theme or Iron Man will be the day that I walk away from LSU football.
My mind simply can't comprehend the amazing level of "LAME" that is displayed by all of these SEC schools when their bands play that same old tired lame crap.
To me, TGBFTL perfectly sums up LSU... original, spirited, crazy, and seemingly drunk.
Have any of you ever been to a band party? I went to a few when I was a student. Those guys are freakin hilarious.

bama would win it because they would pull their entitlement shite and the sec office would be afraid not to select them. auburn would cheat by paying for ringers. florida would whine and pull the anti-southern card. it would be awful and political as hell.
