A lot of people use their tickets to get in and go sit with friends somewhere else. We sold our extra ticket to a guy we never saw again. We had an empty seat next to us, but that ticket was used. Students especially do this. I could see kids standing in the aisles across the way in the student section.

Seat next to me was open, along with 6 together in the row behind me and about 4 a few rows in front of me. By the middle of the 2nd quarter everyone had just spread out some.

bunch of no shows in the west upper. Seat next to me was empty, along with several above me in the southern corner. Could also see several stretches of empty seats in the east side lower bowl chairbacks. I was high enough in the WU to see outside the stadium and couldn't believe the steady trickle of people leaving throughout the entire game.

THis. Last few yrs., I'll look for something in the NEZ so I can hook up w/ one of my daughters in the student section. It makes for a wierd exchange:
"Hey, where's your seat located?"
"Dude, this one's right on the 50yd. line, 10 rows up!"
"Nah, I'm trying to find something in the endzone"
"????"

There were tons of holes in the East Upper

I heard that South Carolina didn't sell all of their ticket allotment. Perhaps some of the vacant seats in the upper deck were theirs.

I could not believe how many empty seats there were in Tiger Stadium for this critical game.
It got me to wondering if LSU could see this coming and did not want to embarrass itself on national TV with so many empty seats visible.
we need to follow the greenie weenie lead and start thinking about building a 30,000 seat stadium or maybe we could play our games at Memorial stadium - of course Southern might bump us. By the way - where in the hell did you find LSD? That shite use to make me say strange things back in the day.

I saw a ton of empty seats too. I thought it was a crappy turnout until I read articles on the "amazing crowd".

I was at the game. The house was full. You must have been at the Tulane game.

I was at the game too --- and sitting in section 211 - NE corner -- there were 4 empty seats next to me, about 4 - 6 in the row behind me. I could see a LARGE number of open seats in the West Uppers --- could not see EU due to location. I also know of 4 that were offered to me free that went unused in the SEZ.

I'm sure I am not alone in my experience/observations --- FACT, there were many open seats = fair weather fans and no shows because we lost 1 game the week before.

Top NE part of student section never completely filled in around the scoreboard and there were a HUGE number of tickets for sale on campus all day --- in the morning the "ticket brokers" had no tickets - but by game time I saw lots and lots of people SELLING and few people buying.... I suspect a few thousand tickets for sure went unused.

What was announced may well have been 92K - as in tickets sold -- but the stadium was not full by any stretch of the imagination.

It was loud and looked great but don't kid yourselves - it was not a packed house.

I disagree with the OP that "gold games" are to cover up empty seats.... hell the "average" fan covers more space than the lines on the seats --- so even with a few thousand not in attendance it's hard to see the openings on TV, apparently.

"...south carolina didn't sell all of their allotment...."

On the contrary -- on the TV replay the overhead pictures pretty much show the top of the EU - end to end maybe the top 15 rows is all Gamecock fans.

I could not see EU from my seats - but I could see around me in 211, to the right of me around the NEZ scoreboard, the WU, and up until kickoff the West side --- but a lot of the West side were last minute arrivals and student "blocks" of tickets - late arrivals that drive to their front row parking last minute and partiers that were binging their last few drinks up until kickoff.

All you people bitching about having rows empty and seats open next to you are pissing me off and making me jealous. Meanwhile, in my section we were packed in like a can of sardines, as usual.

shite, enjoy yourself and spread out. Who cares if the owner of those seats didn't show up? His loss.

"We talk about the no-show situation," LSU Director of Athletics Joe Alleva said. "This is a phenomenon all around the country. It's a concern. Big-screen televisions and HDTV at homes are a factor. That's why we are trying to continue to make improvements for the people at the stadium."

What about pricing people out of the market and gouging attendees on concessions once inside the stadium?

If it makes anyone feel better, Florida had a bunch of empties vs. LSU in the Swamp two weeks ago.

And that was a big game as well ...

I couldn't give away two tickets a half hour before kickoff. Was walking around south stadium right outside the stadium and there were several other people holding up tickets.

I was sitting in the NE side of the stadium and there were a couple of empty seats around me but not many at all. However, looking up into the west upper deck I commented to my buddy about the number of empty seats I could see up there.
