Curious what the thoughts on that same situation are with Jones at first…

Hoping he comes back motivated, he could be a masher if he gets a little more disciplined on off speed stuff.

If you don’t already know the answer to this, you’re beyond help.

Why? Out of position? Can’t crash fast enough? Not athletic enough to transition from fielding to tossing so smoothly?

Is this supposed to be a legit question?

Take it easy. It’s a hypothetical. If you don’t like it, take a hike.

Come on my man.

Jones isn’t ever going to make that play, he def wasn’t this year and I don’t see him turning into what Wake forest has at first.

That play is maybe made by 3 guys, one Morgan who made it. The normal wake first basemen and I think Cags has a chance to make that play as well.

A lot of big league guys aren’t making that play either.

The real question should be, “if Jared Jones was hitting now like he was when we played Morgan in LF, would LSU have been up 3-0 when Wake Forest tried to bunt?”

Likely so.

Out of position?

Morgan was holding a runner on first. He was "out of position" to field a bunt. He's fast enough, and athletic enough to recover to make that play. Jones is not. I really question the intelligence of someone who even has to ask why on this.

Are you kidding? You’re talking about the best defensive first baseman in all of college baseball versus a true freshman who was a catcher. Does Morgan hit home runs like Jones? No. Does Morgan hit the ball as hard as Jones? No.
Completely two different players.

His pinch hits in the super and cws showed some focus. I like Jones. Hope it clicks again.

Ha. Do what you gotta do, man. It’s a conversation about baseball.

So none of LSU's super stars touched Wake pitching, but Jones magically just would have? And done so enough for us to have 3 runs? Come on.

in time, hopefully. In 2023,heck no. What Tre did was simply amazing. The knowledge behind the execution and the seemingly effortless play was amazing.

JJ did say he thought Jones could become a corner outfielder.

He has a big frame and could probably slim down slightly and become lean and strong which would give him a chance crashing down like that. Even with that it takes a super freak athlete to do what Tre did on that play.

What spurred this question on, was I watched a video of the play on IG from the stands that a fan shot. Really good overhead view of the play.

Some of the comments suggested that it was an easy play for Tre to make because the ball bounced perfectly for him.

My question is brought about from that other conversation.
