I don't think anyone can really answer that. It's psychology.

“Muscle memory”. The same way a musician can unlearn how to play an instrument if not in practice for long enough. Also, picking up bad habits or, in this case, incorrect habits from an injury. He essentially created new habits while forgetting old ones. Now he simply “can’t find it” anymore. It’s a frustrating position to be in because your brain knows what to do, in many instances, but you can’t connect the dots with correct mechanics.

He is there, dressed, and healthy. Might not be pretty, but I would love to see him go out fighting till the end at least.

He was in street clothes watching in stands with girlfriend today. He and Veitmeir are here but watch in street clothes and can't be in dugout during game.

Agreed. Pitching is not like riding a bike. It’s in every way an art form. It takes constant practice and honing. If that process is corrupted by playing with an injury, it can take a very long time for some to reacquire the proper mechanics and muscle memory to return to proper form. I’ve seen it a couple times in my career, even with hitters too.

I'm pulling for him. Maybe even let him pinch hit or pinch run to get him in one last game.

Yeah sounds like he has a dead arm.

It’s even more unfortunate because not only does he love LSU and want to perform for the team, but he’s also a stand-up guy. Heartbreaking his career is ending this way

What if pitching in an actual game against real competition is the cure? A problem this strange could have an equally strange solution. I wish he would have gotten an inning in a midweek game just to see.

I kind of agree that the solution is in his head and therefore, it could just happen.

But, given that he hasn't pitched at all, that means that it's bad...really, really bad.

If he just didn't pitch as well, I'd agree. But, based on what he showed at the end of last year, he was unable to deliver the ball with anything close to the delivery he used to have.

This could just be an oversight on my part but wouldn’t it be possible for him to redshirt this season? From what I see, he has not played at all this year and this is his fourth year on campus. Which should leave him with one redshirt year. Am I missing something?

I thought you were permitted to bring the full 35 to the SECT?
