I guess they must have considering the picture but has anyone ever seen a picture of it other than this one. I noticed it in a book and was just wondering. I thought we went staight from the numbers to the tigerhead in the purple circle that Bert Jones wore.

Cameras were scarce back then. Ol polariods, hated pulling the dam back off of 'em and having to wait.

Never. Not one time. At least not during a game.

That logo was on a lot of things in the late 70's, but never on a helmet for a game. I used to have a bunch of plastic cups with that logo that came from the concession stands at the games .

I don't think so.

Through '71 only the #'s were on the helmets.
From '72 - '76 the #'s were replaced with the Tiger.
In '77, "LSU" was added over the Tiger and I think it's remained like this since.

Good ol Tommy Casanova.

I don't recall ever seeing a helmet with that logo during an LSU home game back then. If they wore it, it had to be an away game, but I doubt it.

Football games as fashion shows is a recent phenomenon.

Yep.

Got some history in Tiger Stadium.

Used to cheer so loud I would lose my voice until Wednesday after a home game.

Anything is better than the one they used this year (taking prilosec), they remind me of the Sewanee Tigers. Like to see RS in one.

THAT, my friends, is an actual WINDOW STICKER. It was never on the LSU helmet.

It was plastered on Casanova's helmet just before LSU changed from numerical decals on the helmet
in 1972 to the Tiger head in 1973 with the "LSU" under the Tiger head. BTW, those decals went from 1973-1976, and LSU's current design has been with us since 1977.

My father laughed when he saw this picture, he had the same decal on the front window of his 72 caddy

I wish we only had the numbers on our helmets now. The design went down hill after we messed with it.

A very popular decal. I had many and saw many.

Numbers were not worn on LSU helmets in 1972. That was my Freshman year. I was inebriated, but I never saw any numbers on the sides of the helmets.
