Does anybody think that Chad Jones is a oversized safety and should be playing linebacker? I think he would be a hell of a linebacker but I can not see him guarding a slot wide receivers in the NFL one day. Its hard for a 6-2 230 person to guard a slot receiver no matter how fast he is in a straight line.

The 230 is his basbeall weight. His football wt. is more like 215.

Chad Jones should be playing strong safety, free safety, and linebacker... simultaneously. Unfortunately Les Miles considered that to be an unfair advantage for our defense.

That's not really our concern though.

He is an outstanding safety. I think he will have a tough decision with baseball if he continues to improve his pitching.

ive always thought he played out of position.should be playing OLB....but after watching some spring practices and the spring game...if ,and i say if, he can get down to 220...could be the most dominating safety in the country..if there is a weakness..he does not have great cover skills..thats about it... and coopers safeties (both) play high and low...so his position as ss or fs...wont really matter...

We might just give him da ball on short yardage situations and let him hurt someone like that too!

I think he would be one hell of a linebacker, a qb killer!

Maybe saw him as another Roy Williams

yes he is raw. he will hit and play outfield of course. with the scholly cuts we need players that can do multiple things. he is left handed and throws in the low-mid 90's. PM will find a way to best utilize him.

I doubt Chad Jones gives baseball a serious look ever again.

I don't think he'll play at that weight. He was at 6'3" 222 lbs. last year. I'd expect him to be close to that again this year.
Anywhere around 220 lbs. will make for some real nice safety blitzs.
That's what I missed seeing last year - someone coming from the defensive backfield bringing some weight and a nice head of steam.

chilge1 - just curious - why you think so? B/C they won the NC?
Posted on 7/26/09 at 8:23 pm to Jaketigger
No... because Chad Jones is a future first-round draft pick in football. Same reason that Jared Mitchell started focusing on baseball this year and gave up being a WR

chad is too slow to cover recievers. he should be playing olb.
