If you're 18+ and can earn a living doing what you're best at, you should be allowed to do so.

YES

But I think a good solution is to increase the playoffs to 16 teams. Drop the "Rent A Win" games and start the Playoffs sooner in the year but ending as the same time and finishing as they are setup now.

This would enhance the value of each Bowl Playoff game, thereby encouraging players to stay.

Should this apply to all college students? Once enrolled, you're a prisoner until you graduate?

The players should be able to leave whenever they want.

They should be able to go to the NFL whenever the NFL says they are willing to take them.

You are right, an education will always be there. Right after they finish their NFL careers, they can go back to school or even in the offseason like a lot of players do. I never understood this argument

Should Bill Gates have been allowed to drop out of college to found Microsoft? Should Mark Zuckerberg have been allowed to drop out of college to start Facebook?

Do you understand that this is the reason to go pro? College will always be available to return to. A chance at the financial security a career in the NFL, MLB, NBA, etc... can provide will not always be there.

If they are able, they should be able to go pro at whatever age. That is supposed to be how capitalism works. Supply and demand. If there was a demand for them to play pro at even 16, then they should be allowed to do so.

How can anyone tell someone else "you are not allowed to make that kind of money because you are not old enough"?

No one has an issue with kids getting a paper route to make money. Why should professional sports be any different. If a pro team wanted to pay a 16 year old and train him for the sport and he wants to, he should be allowed to do so.

Stop bashing the OP for a second and think about how much better college sports as a whole would be if this were the case.

I actually agree. I'm not on Facebook and snicker at the people that post every minute aspect of their life on Facebook and other social media.

Put the phone down and live in the present.

I have a different take on this:
There should be two routes for an athlete to take out of high school. The NFL is the only major sport that doesn't have a "minor" league. HS football players could go to college just like now, and if they do then they should be 'locked in'. Or they could go the "minor" league route and play ball and move up and down the spectrum as they progress, such as in baseball. A college degree for so many of these athletes these days is a joke as they are tutored, barely make grades or ACT to get in, etc. So those that really aren't "college ready" academically could go the minor league route, and get paid.

I know many will probably downvote the crap out of this but it is just a thought. The system now is so unfair to the players and a boon to the NFL.

Have a great day and Happy New Year>>>>

It is kind of a wash, 4 decades ago Freshman couldn't play and players stayed three years on the varsity, today the ones that leave early probably played three years since they got in as Freshmen. These guys are physically more developed than decades ago, no reason they shouldn't leave if they are able to make the jump to the NFL.

So the NFL shouldn't be allowed to make rules for itself?

Right, so they can go to school after the NFL doesn't work.

Especially baseball?

This post, yikes.
