The guy is a great athlete and will be fine.

I see this as a good thing, we have experience and fresh legs on each play.

While I feel for Shep, this is a good thing. Wide Receiver is a position where LSU needs players to step up and immediately make an impact. The key for this offense is a legit deep threat. Will Beckham, Landry, or Wright take the role? That remains to be seen - but for this offense to succeed, we need someone to take Rueben Randle's place. Without a legit deep threat, it will be a painful offense.

Go ask Trev Faulk....not ready = not getting drafted.

I don't think shep has been utilized at LSU the correct way. The dude has tons of talent. Once his hands are on the ball he's proven he's golden.

He got his hands on the ball against Bama last November and promptly sat down! If he had scored, as any other receiver would have, we might be bragging about the NC right now.

Let's be honest, Shep is a good guy but not an elite football player. He doesn't have good hands, goes down at first contact, and has fumbled too much in the past. All this talk about "this is the year for Shep" is just wishful thinking. If the guy had it, he'd have shown it the last 3 years. I realize we had QB problems, but that's even more reason the coaches would've used Shep if they had confidence in his ability to make plays. The guy's just not a very good player for us.

Our WRs this year remind me a little of these guys (at least physically):

Bravo! People need to stop trying to hype up players over and over based on high school highlite stuff that they saw during recruiting time.
He may well have a breakout year of some kind this year, but the constant bitching about him not being used correctly gets old.

it's mindboggling why they didn't have him fake the run and throw at least one during the past 3 years

It's cuz he he's not real good. Geez, the guy just didn't work out. Bennie Logan exceeded all expectations and Shep fell short. You win some and you lose some. The shame of it is that if Shep had been properly rated as a three star everyone would be cool with him. Folks might call him a scrappy overachiever.

Do you see it as good news or bad? (R.Shep on depth)

OBJ, Wright, Landry and Shep
That a pretty strong 4 WR set

And K.Boone, A.Williams, J.Fobbs, P.Turner, T.Dural, K.Holmes, A. Johnson and J. Brazil behind them!
We stacked !
I think all of these could potentially return kicks with TM7, esp. Shep, Turner, Brazil, and Holmes.

He's not a Wide Reciever. Biggest misuse of a player in LSU history.

This. I hope I never see him lined up on the edge of a 5 wide this year.

Shepard is a very talented ATHLETE but not a very talented WR. What has Shep shown anyone at WR the last 3 years that shows he is a very talented RECEIVER (as in running routes, catching passes, getting separation, etc...)? I haven't seen it. He is electrifying once the ball is in his hands, but the problem has been getting it to him and him catching it. In all honesty his best role was like Trindon Holliday in a trickeration/multi-role type of guy. Shepard had his most impact when we got the ball into his hands as quickly as possible and put him in space. In 2009 and 2010 we would line him up at WR, bring him in the backfield in motion and hand the ball off to him in a few different ways and he was VERY effective in slicing up defenses for big gains more times than not. Maybe that was a Crowton element and not a Miles/Kragthorpe/Stud element...but that was the best way to use him.

This. I was about to post something along these lines.

People assume that since he was a top ranked recruit, that he automatically is a great playmaker who should never leave the field, ect. ect. That was true in high school, but it just hasnt worked out for him in college. OBJ has shown more ability with the ball in his hands than shep has IMO.

And im not trying to dog out shep, love the guy and happy he came to LSU, but i just dont see it working out for him the way it was "supposed" to.

Shep with the ball in his hands is just as dynamic as Harvin was for UF in college.

Since when? He hasnt shown anything near to what Harvin did. Again, Im a huge fan of Shep, people just assume that since he was a 5 star stud recruit who was similar to Harvin in HIGH SCHOOL means he will be that in college. But it doesnt.
