Why? Its no different than baseball or basketball. LSU is not severely altering their uniforms like Oregon. All LSU is doing is changing the color schemes with their own colors! Helmet design is the same, stripes on jerseys and pants mostly the same. Just changing color schemes.
You'd think the baseball fans freak out when LSU wears the gray jerseys? Because Gray is not an LSU color.

As long as i can tell who is playing by the colors and patterns, they can switch up all that they want. If I turn on the TV and can't tell that it's LSU playing by the uniforms, that's when I'll be pissed. I like the iconic, but something new and fresh once in a while doesn't hurt.

This. I think there’s no issue with doing something like Florida with our uniforms - a few different tasteful combinations of our school colors
But don’t get stupid like Oregon, Ole Miss now, etc.
ETA: I think the “we’re above that” or “ruins the brand” arguments are overstated. Ohio State switches things up similarly and is arguably the top program in CFB. Notre Dame does as well and is the most recognizable program in CFB history. As does Michigan. Even Alabama and Penn State have two regularly worn uniforms (home and away) for bigtime games whereas lsu only had 1 for the longest. I think a little shakeup tastefully done is fine and even welcomed.

I'll actually go one step further just because I've seen the softball team wear an anthracite colored uni that looked bad arse with the purple and yellow. If there were ever a situation that LSU wanted to raise money and use an actual one-off uni combo and auction them off or whatever, I would love to see that combo on the football unis just once and only once.
