Do party schools with less academic focus get better student fan support?

Seems like posters on this board are always rough on the students for not being as supportive of the major sports, as the posters think they should be. My guess is that LSU academics are a lot tougher now than it was when they attended - if they attended.

LSU has:
-One of the most highly regarded Academic Center for Student Athletes in the nation. Football is second only to Vandy in graduating players in the SEC (those who don't leave early for pros :)
-Has higher academic standards and test score requirements every year.
-Boasts highly ranked national programs in: Internal Auditing, Geophysics, MBA program, Hurricane Engineering, Agribusiness, Entreprenurship, Music & Dramatic Arts, Veterinary Medicine, Landscape Architecture, Petroleum Engineering, Mass Communications, etc.
-LSU is one of several universities included in the Carnegie Very High Research classification.
-LSU is one of 30 Land, Sea and Space Grant institutions.

A class never forced me to miss a game except my Wednesday night class I had to take in grad school only because I would have to actually miss class which I didnt do.

Wisconsin proves you can have it all. Good academics, party school, good student support of athletics.

I think LSU just isn't bringing in the same types of kids as they used to. Im purple and gold to the core, and I go to ASU, while I know lots of people that ended up at LSU that just don't have that same passion to be a tiger. Its just a different level of want to be in the stands cheering for your school. As LSU tries more and more to increase its academics and diversity by accepting kids from around the country and world the student body loses more and more of that want. If you want student-fan support, you have to have higher in-state and/or legacy numbers in your student body.

Duke basketball laughs at this logic.

I only missed one half of a game. The UT game after Katrina. Dick teacher gave us a test the next day.
I left at half to study because we were up so much.

Maybe students just don't want to go to basketball games if our team isn't that good....

But Duke is basically a basketball only school. Would they support 3 major sports the same way?
