I have to disagree. There are two primary reasons Tiger Stadium is not what it used to be:

1) TV. We used to stand for the whole game. We yelled non-stop. Games lasted about 2 1/4 hours, the action was fairly constant. Now games last 3 1/2 hours, with tv timeouts disrupting the flow of the game / cheering.

2)

Yes, this has been a big part of south LA culture for decades ... and, like it or not, it was a BIG part of why Tiger Stadium was such a bad-arse place in the 50's, 60's and 70's. Clamp down on the drinking and the partying, you lose not only numbers of fans, but boisterous fans (who sometimes cussed, puked, fought and fell down .. part of the mystique of Tiger Stadium?).

It was not a real kid-friendly place by today's standards .. but our parent's took us and I took my kids. And we all had fun.

correct.

60" HDTV's and internet service have made watching a game at home or a bar a much better experience than it used to be. It kind of overtakes the hassle of dealing with traffic, etc. The stadium experience will never be what it was in the 60's-80's.

Its a burning pain knowing you can't go inside the stadium when its a few blocks away and the lights are on.

I've given away tickets before and had to pony up 100 dollars because I couldn't stand it.

Game first..tailgate 2nd.

I refuse to pay $40/game for parking, so, to get a parking space in a free lot, I am having to be on campus much earlier than I used to. Tailgating from 9 or 10 to kickoff, going to the game, and then post-game traffic wears you out. I have shifted to a tailgate-only fan and gave my tickets to my kids.

I love to tailgate and get there many hours before the game.... but after all these years I cant wait to get in the stadium to see the tigers play....I would never have anything against people that would rather tailgate than go to the game...in fact all the people tailgating is a great part of the game day experience......but to all you sorry mother frickers who bitch about traffic......frick the frick off you pussy mother frickers im sick of you bastards.....

Some fans realize the game is entertainment, and their self worth isn't determined by the outcome. Thank god we have fans like you to pick us up.

This is why bama has been beating us lately. We have lost our edge.

I think there's some truth to that Keltic.

When I first started going to games in the 70's, there wasn't a whole lot of tailgating going on. Folks would go out to bars or restaurants a few hours before the game but the game was still the main feature.

Now for more folks than not the tailgate is the draw and there's a competition as to who can have the best. The game is secondary for many more than it used to be IMHO.

And with the rising costs of going to games that trend will continue.

The stadium and fans aren't the same as 1997 Florida, 2003 Georgia, 2007 VT and 2007 Florida ever again. These new fans just leave early and don't yell at all. The experience has definitely weakened. They could have priced the real fans out or other things occurred.

Granted 2012 Bama game felt like the old tiger stadium but that one was one game that year

You should thank him and me and other fans that show up.

Empty stadiums are embarrassing...
I can go to or throw a party year round. Tiger Football happens only a handful of times.

We tailgate before and after.
Priorities are different for some.

Last game I attended there were as many people texting as watching the game, it seems.

When I lived in Baton Rouge, I tailgated then watched the game at a bar. Maybe my eyes are bad, but I cant tell which players are in the game from the stands most of the time. So I can see whats going on better at a bar or from home.

Now that I don't live in Baton Rouge, I only get to make it in for a couple of games. I come in without tickets most times. I don't plan to drive 4 or 5 hours and then not go to the game, But if I don't get tickets I won't be too upset. And now when I go, I have a radio and headphones so I can listen to the commentary.

I disagree....to name a few in the last couple years the two bama games ,auburn 2011 and usc east last year .. the crowds were awesome....I think the issue is our fans are spoiled with having a winning program and the hunger just isn't there anymore....

For really big games, the crowd outside is sometimes estimated 250K+

I live in GA now so season tickets are out of the question for me here, however I bought season tickets to uga this year and sold all but the LSU game to my dawg buddies. I make the games when we go to the GA Dome ie SEC championship, bowl games, chick fill a kick offs...
I would imagine if I lived in LA still I would go to as many games as possible.

its going to be a real problem for a lot of programs because its not going to be practical much longer with all the stadium expansion and price increases, most will enjoy the game from the comfort of their home, as I can see myself doing as well.

I only have season tickets to LSU, but when we don't have a home game, I often head out to watch Miss St or Ole Miss if they are at home...

kinda freaks them out to see me there with an LSU cap on when they are not playing LSU...
