Did CEO just name Apu Ika the starting NT?

He started his SECMD presser by talking about the 2019 recruiting class.
He then mentioned four returning starters on the defensive line: K'Lavon Chaisson, Rashard Lawrence, Braden Fehoko, and Glenn Logan. No mention Tyler Shelvin.

So coach just said we are going to mainly play a 4 man defensive line? Does that mean 3-4 but with one of the olb putting ghand in dirt or blitzing every down? Or will we have a 4-3 a bit more?

Sounds like a 4-2-5 with one pass-rushing DE (Buck), 2 DT, and a heavier DE (logan, lawrence, etc.). We ran that a ton last year, and it seems like the F linebacker is the odd man out. When you have someone like Jacoby Stevens you can add in that 5th DB and still stop the run.

Ah I was thinking ika, shelvin on inside with Lawrence and Logan on outside with Phillips on the middle and chaisson and divinity on the outside... I would frickin love it and instantly got excited but then I got neevous thinking we lose our depth and getting nervous about our rotation.

He probably does start, but I think he meant they were both there in the spring...meaning they’ve already started practicing.

He's said in previous interviews that both Shelvin and Ika are considered starters

He also said a week or two ago that there were times when Tyler Shelvin looked like the best defensive lineman on the field

They’re both going to get snaps not a real clear cut starter it sounded like to me

Depth on the defensive line will we welcome after what took place last season.

Yea, I agree with BengaBen, I think he meant they were already with the team and had started practicing. IDK what the deal is with Shelvin. Maybe he gained weight back since spring. That would be a damn shame. He'd made such great progress.

Idk, but ika will get serious playing time this season. He is dominant and hard to block with his size, quickness and explosivenesa off the ball at the snap. It wouldn't surprise me at all if he ends up starting over shelvin at some point this season. The guy is a beast man. You play the best players that give you the best chance to win, no matter what class they're in. He looked better than shelvin in the spring game and was downright unblockable. Shelvin better show us something or he will be backup behind ika very soon.
