re: Did Bo Jackson ever play in Alex Box Stadium?

According to the Wikipedia, Bo was injured in 1984--no stats. He played in 1983, 1985, and 1986, and I would assume he played at Alex Box. Unfortunately, college baseball was a "second tier" sport at the time, and game stats are difficult to locate. Jack Lamabe was the coach in 1983; Skip began the year afterwards. I myself love college baseball, but it is often still a "second tier" sport. I would rather watch a college game over the pros any day (depending on who's playing, of course--LSU and the University of South Abalama, in that order, are my favorite teams).

I saw Bo Jackson play at the Box. He jacked one out. I was sitting in the third base side and he was batting left handed(his back was to me). He hit a moon shot to right field, over the fence. When it came down, it hit Nicholson Rd. and bounced at least 30 feet high. Bo received a standing ovation for that.

Saw him play when I was a kid and could not tell you the year or the score. I do however remember the ball being launched out of right field and bouncing onto Nicholson.
I was there too.

Fastest man to first base that I've ever seen. Including major leagues.

Bo absolutely played in Alex Box. Left field.
There were wooden bleachers out there at that time. My old man (RIP) and I were the only people out there. My dad heckled him at the start of the game but we moved to shaded seats after the 3rd inning or so.

I was there. Longest home run I've ever seen in person.
Bo Jackson with an aluminum bat (the old kind they used to use then) must have been terrifying for a pitcher.

Of course he did. When in doubt, give the opposing team a standing ovation.

He jacked one out that landed on the roof of the student housing behind left field.... The ball was still rising as it cleared the fence
People say this about every single prolific power hitter to play for or against LSU in the Old Box.

I don't know about all these Bo Jackson stories, but I really, truly did see Bobby Thigpen play right field for Mississippi State in the 80's and throw an LSU baserunner out at 3rd from the spot near where the warning track and the foul line meet.
Thigpen would play the outfield then come in and close games on the mound. Incredible arm.

But... But... He made a 500 ft. throw that never got higher than 3 feet off the ground!
That's nothing compared to throwing 110 mph from 3rd to 1st.

Somebody needs to track down some 80's Auburn/LSU baseball media guides so we can get to the bottom of this. Or go to the library and look through old newspaper articles.

don't want to do that because it will show the attendance as 4 and half the people in this thread will be outed as fakes.

Spring 85. I intended to go but didn't.

I don't remember the year, but I was going to say either '84 or '85. I was a student from '81 to '85 and back then you just showed your student id at any LSU sporting event and you got in. The SEC series were 3 games, but they were a single 9 inning game and a 7 inning double header. The best college player that I saw during that time was Dave Magadan from Alabama, but I couldn't tell you which year he played at The Box either.
I played against Magadan in '82. I was a senior and he was a freshman. He could just flat out hit. I remember one game he sent me to the CF warning track 3 times. I caught one and the other 2 left the yard. On top of that, he closed the game on the mound. I missed playing against Bo. I'm sure he played at the Box. Back then we only played Western Division teams and we always played 3 game home and away series.

It has it's days. Middle age isn't too bad, but it sucks knowing you've already made the turn and are on the back nine. The front nine was pretty good, but I probably could have used a few mulligans.

Most amazing stat about Bo? While at Auburn, his waist was 35 inches, and his individual thigh was 38 inches. Dude had tree trunks for legs.
