Joe Labruzzo and Art Cantrelle. Two of my favorite all time RB's.

He's South Lafourche...known as the Lockport Comet. Not a big guy (about 100 pds. lighter than fullback Danny Leblanc), and smaller than Don Schwab, Buddy Hamic, or Buddy Soefker, but he outpassed all of them in terms of toughness and endurance.

Yes I was a huge fan. Listened to the games on the radio with my dad. Saw him play once. I was a little shite then. Probably my first favorite player. Then Bert Jones the Ruston Rifle and Charles Alexander. How can you not love a player with that name. Joe LaBruzzo... great player. My dad rest his soul was a LSU 1958 graduate...GEAUX TIGERS!!!

He was the star of the first LSU game I can remember watching, the January 1, 1966 Cotton Bowl.

My dad went to high school with him and has told me stories.

My Uncle was Dave McCormick, the tackle that LaBruzzo ran behind four plays in a row times two for the two touchdowns in the 14-7 win over Arkansas in the 1966 Cotton Bowl. Charlie Mac declared late in life that that game was the biggest win of his coaching career.
My Uncle David died young during the mid-1980s and Charlie Mac contacted my aunt and gave her a large painting of Joe LaBruzzo following Big Dave through the hole at the goal line during the 66 Cotton Bowl. In the background is the quarterback, Pat Screen. For a while, I had the painting hanging in my house......often thought how all three of the Tigers in the painting, LaBruzzo, McCormick, and Screen all died in tragic ways.
