The town of Amite recently proclaimed Devonta Smith day in honor of their local player catching the winning touchdown pass in the national title game. Anyone see this as an affront to Louisiana and its major university?

The young man had every right to attend the university of his choice for whatever reasons. But he did reject his own state university an hour away from his home in favor of their biggest rivals. It is likely most football fans in the area are LSU fans and few would consider themselves Alabama fans.

Congratulations to the young man on having a good game and catching the game winning pass. However, a municipally sanctioned day in his honor disrespects this state and its own university and by extension lauds others from this state who chose to go to Alabama. It is even more so if the stories we hear about the influences around the parish which steer their locals to Tuscaloosa are true.

I doubt Monroeville, Alabama would hold a day in his honor if one of their native sons caught the winning touchdown in the national championship game for LSU or any other out of state school after shunning the Tide or Auburn.

Amite setting the bar really low. I guess if he wins the Heisman they will give him his own Month. If he goes pro they may give him his on season.

I am sure it was a feel good thing for some people there.
To many others it was spitting in their faces.

I am more pissed at the incompetent LSU Administration and Board of Supervisors for allowing CEO to be hired as our coach. Think about how this hire was a slap in the face to all of the hardworking tax paying citizens in Louisiana that has to watch as this program continues its downward trajectory. Just imagine if we hired a legit Head Coach who kids believe could actually compete for championships, Devonta could have been a Tiger and you wouldn't have written this post.

How hard did LSU recruit him? Not every Louisiana kid that goes to Bama was given the full court press by LSU. Take the corner back Eddie Smith from Salmen for example. I don't even think LSU recruited him and he signed with Alabama this year.

Seems to me, it's an Amite decision

If that's what their residents choose to do, why does it bother you?

Would you have a melt if New Orleans decided to have a Harry Connick Jr Day?

Doubtful that most Amite citizens were in favor of this. Probably no one wanted to offend when it was discussed, presumably in town council meetings.

If Harry Connick eschewed his home state to lead another state in a musical competition I would oppose it. Melt? No.

Frick D. Smith and his Tide arse. I hope the weather is terrible and if he’s riding in a car, it stalls.
