so it changed from the time he was lobbying for the job (when he wanted Kiffin) to the time when he hired Canada, and now is changing AGAIN less than a year later? i don't think you can call that an "overall philosophy"

a smart man alters his approach for the tools he has....instead of using the Miles strategy of hammering a square peg in a round hole.

But it was a beneficial relationship for both parties.

And Canada & O cant be?

I mean Canada’s hands were all over our offense outside of 1 game. Coach O clearly let him work.

If you think Canada is a good coach I don’t see what the problem is as long as he’s here.

Is that how we lost to Troy and got blasted by State?

An alternative is that he just doesn't know what he's doing.

nor a lack of one either. Let's instead call it, an "evolving philosophy."

Don't you think a coach should at least have some kind of offensive philosophy in mind that he wants for his program in order for him to tailor his offensive coaching hires and offensive recruiting?

If that was the case, Saban would have never hired Kiffin. Saban has interviews posted on the internet about the change he knew he had to make on offense. That's why he doesn't cry about the HUNH anymore.

That's just a euphemism for "doesn't know what he's doing".

Once it became dated, he brought in Kiffin to modernize his offense to mesh with the changing landscape of CFB.,

Damn, Saban meddled with his own offensively philosophy. He is the only HC that is allowed to do that.

The first 3 games of the season saw LSU commit 30 total penalties for 272 yds. 17 of those were offensive (most holds and illegal formations) and drive killers! There were a few times that we had penalties on back-to-back plays.

So roughly half the penalties were on the defense? There were a total of 7 pre-snap penalties on offense, 5 in the first game. That problem had mostly been rectified by the time Orgeron decided he needed to cut out the pre-snap motions.

I prefer to say, that he is "figuring it out." He is still new at this, you know?

Let's not dick around. We need to go get a spread OC and finally run a high powered offense.

his phisophy has been to have a big offensive line, big physical backs in order to establish the run first and foremost

Saban's sounds just like Eaux's philosophy.

Last season Saban recognized he needed to evolve Bama's offensive philosophies to fit the trends of today's game and hired Kiffin

Kiffin was not hired at Alabama last season.

It's how we won 6 of last 7, covering all 7.

Funny I read so many times how betting the opponent was easy money.

Yes, Saban owes all of his success to O. I'm telling you, O and Alleva are unsung geniuses.

It does? When has O nailed down 1 offensive philosophy and vision that he has for the program? He's been quoted saying both that he'd like to go to a modern spread as well as going with a pro style like what was run at USC. He hired a guy that doesn't really run either of those. I'm just trying to figure out exactly what philosophy or vision O has for the program going forward.

Yeah I definitely misspoke on the timeline there. My point still stands.

No, not quite. The were some unsportsmanlike penalties and special team infractions also.

Absolutely correct. The penalty problems went away after the MS State game. Nevertheless, by game 5 (Troy) the offense had been sloppy and penalized through 3 games, to include a loss, and the play calling in the 1st qtr vs. Syracuse (gm 4) was so very pass heavy that we started slow as they couldn't get anything going.

My point is this, the offense was avg 404/yds total offense; 8 penalties thru 4 games. The offensive yardage per game was going the wrong way.
