There are a bunch of guys on this roster that can play at this level but Wade will have to get this down to 8-9 guys. This is the same reason Kentucky often struggles early in the season...no continuity.

Here's my list of guys that must get minutes:

1-Leblanc-Already our best defender/rebounder in the post
2-Watford
3-Smart
4-Thomas
5-Days
6-Manning
7-Wilkinson
8-Cook-I love this kid!
9-O'Neal

It seems as though Wade likes Hyatt and Gaines is a player but there's just no minutes for them IMO. Good problem to have but it is a problem right now. It will be fun to watch it play out!

How about an "All-defense" 5...Cook,Manning,Watford,Days and Leblanc?!? That 5 could get after some folks!

Absolutely! It's Sam Houston but he was extremely active on D and on the boards. Very long and athletic. He does play in a similar manner to KBW just not quite as explosive. Had a couple put-back dunks, caused a few turnovers and altered several shots.

Agree with all on this list except O'Neal. His rebounding is solid but other than that he hasn't added much so far.

I definitely think we will see more of Cook and less of Gaines going forward.

They need to keep developing O'Neal. He's got way too much height, athleticism, and overall upside to let him sit on the bench all season. I hope he starts taking pointers from Leblanc. Leblanc has some nice aggression in the low post. He's got a long wingspan so he plays tall but O'Neal is 3 inches taller.

A few weeks ago one poster said Days is a great post player to come off of the bench. He's certainly a starter and one of our best players, but I am kind of intrigued with a starting lineup of:

Smart
Cam
Manning
Watford
Leblanc

and having Days, Cook, O'Neal, and Wilkinson come in at various points and in various combinations depending on the circumstances. We have enough depth to send in units of people if we wanted to do that.

I wish I were still in Baton Rouge. This is a fun, talented, and deep team and we have a talented young coach.

On top of that we have 2 athletic 7-footers on the bench that can run the floor, but they are still raw and need development. Could become a kavel bigby williams type of contributors in the future

I don't know. I think he can be just as impactful and explosive as KBW...just in a different way. KBW was a rim protector and did almost all of his work in the paint. Leblanc can get out and guard the perimeter better than what KBW did, but also has the length to recover inside quickly. Other than the put back dunks, which more more akin to Marlon Taylor vs. KBW (though not as highlight reel producing) he didn't do much on offense. He likely won't have the alley-oops like KBW, but that is because LSU doesn't have anyone that wants to throw them (other than Gaines).

There will be some bigger guys that can push him around a bit, but his length and anticipation allows him to almost never be out of the play because he can swoop in from seemingly nowhere at the rim.

It is a one-game, 15 minute sample size. So no one should lose their minds just yet. But it is clear he brings a very different skill set to the team that they don't have in anyone else. To compare, I'd say he's probably a slightly bigger, little more skilled Emmitt Williams. The question is can he keep up the energy and fight that Williams seemed to ALWAYS play with?

Very much agree with this. Just posted the same in another thread before seeing this.

Based on Wade’s comments (and not just this year) and based on his past actions, I don’t see him going past 9 unless there is some foul trouble or just a bunch of people having an off night at the same time.

Gaines will be good in time; but right now I’m much more comfortable seeing Cook out there on the floor as a guard sub.

This tiger team is going to be really good come tournament time. They're going to keep getting better. I just wish we could have kept emmitt for this season too...wow would we be fricking stacked. We still have alot of talent but emmitt should have returned and not went pro so early.

I disagree. O'Neal should be getting playing time because of rebounding, defense and ball handling. He is not going to be a big time scorer but we don't need him to do that. His help on the boards will be absolutely essential when we play a good rebounding opponent and some of other guys pick up first half fouls.
