Fair enough, still think it’s in his best interest to start his pro career

Leaving for $750,000 when an additional year could potentially move you into the 1.5 to 2 million range isn’t really the best move.

that's what message boards are for, after all...

I was just being snarky because that is also what happens on this board.

The expectation has been that Herring would be drafted high enough for him to leave. If it is outside of the top 50, Jay will try to convince him to stay though how hard he will try is not that predictable. Like Jones, he does not lose any leverage if he stays because he has 2 more years of eligibility.

No issues with you sharing what family members have told you.

Leaving for $750k and going to the Dodgers or Indians is a better move than getting $1.5 from the Angels or A's.

Leaving for 750K now versus an unknown next season is always worth considering.

IMO, Jay's biggest mistake in 3 years at LSU was not putting Herring in the weekend rotation in 2024.

He’s had two productive years at LSU and won a natty. You go from being young to old in a very short time in pro ball. He’s gotta strike while the iron is hot

I agree with this.

I like Herring. Think he's gotta a lot of upside. Hope he gives us one more year in P&G.

But if he gets drafted high enough and being a pitcher, I would expect him to leave.

He would be earning 6 figures next year at LSU and potentially adding a million dollars or more to his value. I’m sure everyone evaluates things differently and some people will bet on themselves and some won’t. Will be interesting to see.

Almost always the case with few exceptions, but NIL becoming a real factor now

He can go 4th round and get 2nd round money we wouldn't match, but we can get 4th round slot monies

Based on what? You have any shred of evidence that suggest what Herring makes in NIL? Or are you just throwing random numbers at the wall and hope everybody believes you?

I think he's probably gone and teams have likely already met his number

Betting on yourself can mean coming back and also mean starting pro career now

Don’t know what he would get moving forward but I can tell you from someone involved with baseball NIL that he (and most players) weren’t getting close to six figures.

I’m not sure why it offends you that there are some college baseball players at SEC schools with six figure NIL deals, but there’s ample evidence to support it. There are multiple sources that have stated that Laviolette was asking for $500k.

I think the point here is if someone calls Herring in the 4th round and tries to pay him 4th round money, he should not take it. At that point, that team would draft someone else. So he wouldn't technically be "drafted" in the 4th round. Similar to a guy like Cam Johnson being drafted in the 20th round.

Now it's entirely possible Herring gets drafted in the 4th round and signs for way overslot (I think, someone correct me if I'm wrong with the new CBA). At that point he should sign.

I did a terrible job of articulating this but yes, if a guy is drafted really anywhere in the first 12 rounds, he is likely signing.
