I don't think the players spoke out of turn. I know it appears that way, but I think the coaches started this line of discussion and then the players were interviewed to get their point of view. That's the way I see it.

Come on people!

Glenn-F'ing-Guilbeau?!!?
Glenn"I'll-make-up-a-story-if-I-don't-have-one"Guilbeau?!!?

I'd bet a ton of money that Jones NEVER said ANYTHING near
"the defensive plays are getting to the field late this season because of poor sideline management."

When it's established that Guilbeau took "artistic license" with a 19 yr old's quote to try to stir up controversy, I'd hope The Town Talk has their severs completely clogged with email responses from across the state. GG is a Bob Woodward wannabe, but he's a Jayson Blair emulator. He writes fiction as fact, fact as fiction, all the while diss'ing his alma mater with impudence and apparent impunity. He has a laziness, and lack of skill that he covers with a correspondent lack of ethics.

He's a worthless scumbag.

They are young. They will learn as the season goes along how to deal with the press and, hopefully, their assignments. Beckwith will also help get these guys organized on the field.

These comments shouldn't have been made, but it's understandable if it only happens once. They'll learn to keep this stuff in house.

this is definitely not a good sign that the players seem to be blaming the coaches and against the coaches.

That's prime ingredients for a meltdown on D to occur.

Wasn't there a thread several days ago where I was asked why I thought there were signaling issues? Well this is the reason.

I really doubt that Guilbeau misquoted Jones. Twisting facts in an article-yes, but screwing up a direct quote, No. In Jones' defense ,I have been around a lot of inexperienced D.C.s . One common trait is indecision. I don't doubt that the signals are coming in the late. However, those things are disucussed in team meetings. LSU's D.Bs and D.cs will gain experience and get better as the season goes along.Rabid fans don't help the situation.

Wasnt this kind of expected anyway.
New-CO-DeFEnsive Coordinators. I dont care how much its practiced in the offseason, it cant duplicate the Likes of UF. This has got to be trial by error. Unfortunately there will be several more big plays given up similar to the 2003 Team that couldnt cover the UGA Back out the backfield or the UF back that we finally lost on. Have faith however that the offensively line can continue to Grind!

Jones isn't the only one saying it:

"When the offense is sped up, we're having a hard time getting the right personnel on the field and getting the right calls and checks in, because we're still looking to the sideline trying to get the base call," junior safety Harry Coleman said. "By the time we get it straight the ball has been snapped, and so sometimes guys are out there just playing ball and not knowing what the call is."

It's hard not to notice it, even from the stands. The players are frantically trying to get the call from the coaches and you can see they're not ready. Mallory and Peveto better get that shite straightened out in a hurry.

"poor sideline management" is attributed to Jones, but it is not a quote.

quote:

The defensive plays are getting to the field late this season because of poor sideline management, Jones said, causing late substitutes to often seem confused just before a snap as they look around and frantically question teammates.

Not sure if the was for me. I wasn't saying that Jones didn;t make any critical remarks. I was addressing an earlier discussion about whether the words "poor sideline management" were directly quoted from Jones. They were not.

This looks real. I doubt even Guibleaux could make this one up. You see it happening on the field, that's verification that it's true.

Good point. Wow, that's sensationalist journalism at its worst.

It wasn't a quote, it was a paraphrase. There were no quotation marks.

Exactly.

The "because of poor sideline management" phrase was Glenn Guilbeau at his worst --- confabulating, sensationalizing and then hiding behind the petticoats of a 19y/o to try to get away with it. He is truly pathetic.

It's true..I don't care who says it..have you guys been watching the games?
Our Def looks to the sidelines more than at the line of scrimmage..didn't Steltz make most of the calls in the Def backfield last year, year before that it was Daniels.
Other than 5-6 plays when people..#44..gets beat nobody has physically beat this def. It is complete confusion on their part..I chalk that up to coaching, they seem to run all over the place when the ball is snapped because they still haven't gotten the play!
