He's saying they kind of expected Garrett to take over the backup job, but Lee has played better than Garrett and prevented that from happening.

Did this really stump you?

I read it as they had plans of CG moving into the backup spot (passing him up) but he's competed so well that that's no longer the plan.

This. But read the whole article. The part that scares me is this:
quote:

“He’s more knowledgeable and coming of age,” Miles said. “We wish he’d [Jefferson] just take it over. We wish he’d take some of the responsibility of the offense under his umbrella. I don’t know if he’s capable at this point, as young as he is, to do it.

wow!! so stay tuned folks....

We can't fricking use the "young" excuse anymore. The dude starting almost all of last year and the last few games the year before that. He only has 2 more years for cryin out loud.

I don't get why people want players to quit. They're working their asses off and I think we should support 'em all!

Lee was being compared to Brett Farve at one point in his freshman year. Why can't people give it a rest. He wasn't ready mentally when he was thrown in the fire. Jordan was part of the problem with the offenses last year. They might not see the improvement that they had hoped for and they might be considering opening up the quarterback battle. Which they should.

just ignore comments from those posters. The guy wants the backup QB to quit so that the still struggling QB of the 112th ranked offense wont have to compete for the job.

And the sad thing is, he was being serious.

Sounds like Les Miles is trying to say we may have another QB problem this season.

either that or some folks don't take spring practice that seriously, and others do.

Either way it will not matter until next fall.

Sounds to me that JJ is still not the QB that we need to compete at the highest level (unfortunately, not a surprise) and that CG is not progressing either. In other words, GC is still our QB coach. There were several occasions where JJ should have let the ball fly and didn't (adding to the opposition's sack total).

But he is only 19....

It's typical where the hell did you learn to structure a sentence Miles, but it isn't hard to understand.

The irony.

The staff expected CG to take over as #2, but Lee has shown that he deserves to be the #2, and "in some situations, Lee has outplayed Jefferson."

Interpretation: Lee has improved more than the other QBs, and JJ better recognize.

All of you that are acting like you got what he said right away had to read it and re-read it a couple of times.

And don't you dare say you didn't!

Miles is not a good person to quote. You almost have to paraphrase him because he is so damn careful about what he says that he complicates the shite out of statements instead of being straight up and shooting people straight.

IF that is his intent, why did he talk about Jefferson's lack of improvement in two minute drills for half the article?

Just say, Jefferson ain't getting it done in the two minute drills so there may be a want for better time management at the end of each half, next season. Certainly, we could understand that.

I think it's clear that Lee has held off Garrett, but is also on JJ's arse. And as bad as that sounds for JJ, it's a good thing for LSU. He needs somebody to push him to get better. And if Lee happens to overtake him, fine. Like all position battles in the offseason, may the best man win. It's a new year. Perhpas a light has gone on in Lee's head and he's finally ready now.

This comment is not based in reality. I got it the first time. Maybe because I don't read Miles' comments with presupposition.
