His contract would have to be renegotiated if he were to stay on staff as a position coach. LSU is not going to pay 1.5 mil for a Safety Coach, that is just an absurd amount of money. Our last Safety Coach made about 1/3 of that amount.

If not retained as DC would Daronte be willing to take a drastic paycut if Kelly wants him on staff?????

Good points made by the fellow poster, we are on the hook either way.

I really did not think this through. Just saw 1.5 mil for Safety Coach and my mind fired "no way".

.Daronte is not only as good as what's available but familiar to the team.

I call bullshite on this. A guy who until this year had only been a coordinator once at a Division II school from 2005-2009 and hasn't been a coordinator since is not as good as what is available when you are working with a limitless checkbook. I just cannot understand some of you. Anointing this guy based upon 3 games. The only reason this guy was hired is because he was like the 9th guy after 8 had turned Orgeron down because they could see Ed was a sinking ship. If Kelly wants to keep him that is great he may see something but let Kelly make that choice.

What was Muschamp before Saban made him DC?
Who in the SEC played better defense vs Alabama. Arkansas, and Texas A&M? That defense was with a depleted defensive team due to injuries.
If Jones can bring in the top Defensive recruits in the state, I vote to keep him.

Wait..... b/c he is employed! Doing his JOB! He does not seem entitled and understands the business. This is how you progress in life. He’s showing up! He’s improving. That’s half the battle. I say KEEP him.

1998 West Georgia (DB)
1999 Eastern Kentucky (DB)
2000 Valdosta State (DC/DB)
2001 LSU (LB)
2002–2004 LSU (DC)

I think you are missing the point. You see a steady rise in Muschamp's career. What I cannot get past is that Jones was a DC from 2005-2009 at a D-II school. Then he didn't sniff a DC job for 12 years at 8 different stops in them 12 years in college, CFL and NFL. I don't understand why people want to settle for the unproven. When you have the financial means to go get the proven. LSU didn't settle when it came to a head coach. They went out and hired someone that most people never believed would move. So why keep him as DC when you can go get experienced and proven? You want him to stay that is good he seems like a bright coach. Give him a admin job or something or wherever BK thinks he fits. But don't just settle based upon a good 3 game performance. That is a lazy hire and what our last coach would have done.

Oh and who played better defense against Alabama? How about Auburn? YOu want to make hire off of a game or 2? This is what this board did when they praised Canada and how did that work out?
