A very, very beautiful message.
100% correct. Made me call someone and tell her I haven't given up on her. Hit me hard there for a bit

Just before I was shipped out to Iraq in '04, I was told by my oldest brother to check out DandyDon.com to keep up with the Fightin' Tigers.
It was the first site I would pull up whenever I had access to the internet, even before emailing my wife and family. Since then, I have read DD every morning, without fail. It's still the first thing I pull up.

I'm not one to send out emails asking people to read things. But this Thanksgiving Message was so honest, genuine and heart felt. It's rare for anyone to take a moment and share the pure honesty of their life experience. I feel Don is currently in a place of peace, love and understanding of how fortunate he is to have lived the life he has. And for him to share this with his readers is a very special gift of his and his readers to receive. I have never found a sports related website like his anywhere. It's pure Dandy Don, he's not trying to be something else he's seen or read, just himself in his own unique way of sharing his love of LSU Sports.

Sneaky,
I just sent DD an email on his website telling him that he should write a book about his experiences growing up. Maybe if we all bombarded him with similar request he would actually take some time to write down his memories. Great Stuff.

Great post.
I especially relate to his story about going home again.
I left home for college when I was 18. Forty years later I made a car trip to try and find my house. I drove all over my old neighborhood and couldn't recognize anything. I guess that's why they say "You can't go Home Again."

The Dandy One is an LSU treasure. No one bleeds purple and gold like that man.
To Dandy Don!

I read DD everyday during the Spring and Fall to get updates on LSU football.
I got a bit emotional when he declared that he won't be around forever. I guess sometimes you just get used to something being there...
Funny thing is that I don't always agree with DD but he has a lot more patience than I do when it comes to LSU football - and time usually demonstrates that he's right.
Cheers to DD.

I read this every year and I can hear the children playing, I can see them fishing in the creek and smell the corn bread.
Yes I do cry when I read it and that is why I read it. I don't want to lose that part of me that loves the America that this was and should be again.
God Bless Don, his family and his memories of a loving family that worshipped the Lord.
Amen

I could tell y'all a bunch of stories like that. I'm not quite as old as the Dandy One, but growing up back then was WAY different than it is now.
A lot of people had to live off the land. But it really was great. Taught you about what is really important in life.
I love DD. He has done a lot over the years for the promotion of LSU athletics, and it pains me to see some of our fans diss him.

I feel so bad for him after losing his wife. I have only been married for a little over a year but I think I would lose my mind if something happened to my wife so I can't even imagine what he is going through after losing her after 53 years. I respect him so much for continuing to post everyday through her ilness and even death, and even though I can get the information he provides other places I always read his page anyway and make a contribution yearly. He is a great ambassador for LSU and it pisses me off when I see people on here bashing him.

Dandy Don is a good soul. Reminds me of my grandfather.
Heres to you Dandy.

Especially the part where the Dept Store owner came by on Christmas to drop off the presents.
Does anyone know how Don became an LSU fan? He probably didn't even know what football was as a child.
