Thats because he was dead on. The year Brown came to LSU, we had played basketball in the "cow palace." BB didnt have its own arena for 36 yrs until 1972.

I agree. He was horrible in his last 6 or 7 years and quite frankly should have been fired when it became apparent he had no idea what to do with a talent laiden team that had Chris Jackson, Stanley Roberts and Shaquille. I'll never forget the SEC tourney in Orlando in '90. He couldn't beat an average Auburn team in the very first round with all that talent and UK was out of the tourney on probation. And with all that talent, he also got blown out by a walk-on filled patched up weak Florida team with a scrub coach that year. I would have fired him after that game. The man quit coaching by the time shaq arrived.

To be fair, before Dale Brown we had a coach that could not even make the NCAA tournament with the greatest player in history on his teams.

Roy Williams, lifelong Dean Smith Asst at UNC, and Kansas HC prior to return to alma mater Chapel Hill = NCAA Chosen One = Untouchable

Dale Brown and Jerry Tarkanian, friends, two mutts from nowhere, built hoops programs from nada into national powers, one in an football conference SEC where blueblood Kentucky(monster cheater throughout their history) rules the roost and is the largely lone superpower, the other in the gambling mecca of the USA, both while calling out the hypocrites in the NCAA offices of the then Shawnee Mission-Kansas(now Indianapolis) as "Gestapo Bastards" = Targeted Outcasts

They all cheat..whether a little or a lottle..whom you are and how you do such..whether with discretion or not..matters much!

Let's get something clear. Am I saying that Roy Williams walks on water and raises the dead? No I am not(unless you consider the UNC Tarheels under Brad Daugherty dead...then yes he does). I am sure he has his skeletons. Every coach at some point crosses line whether its calling recruits when he's not suppose to to get a jump on someone, to the coach who flat out pays players. I was simply responding to the comment about RW supposedly convincing Lester Earl to make shite up about Dale Brown in order to get a full release from his scholarship. That is outright ridiculous.

we should all be able to agree that RW is a total piece of crap liar.

On the other side, the basketball program is dumped on and not respected by fans and the athletic dept in general. DB is 100% right on this point.

Actually it's more of a baseball school.

Look at the titles.

That doesn't hurt my feelings at all. But anyone who wouldn't want him as coach, doesn't want to win period. But that is fine and dandy with me. LSU's got a fabulous coach already. They don't need RW.

Cmon man are you saying that the only way someone can win is with RW?

Im happy for NC that ya'll have the coach you wanted, I could care less too but don't expect unconditional love for someone that this fan base sees as a hypocrite.

Sorry you took it that way. What I mean is, RW is a great coach, if someone doesn't want a great coach because they hold him responsible for LSU's probabtion based on ridiculous allegations, then you don't want to win. Mainly because if you feel that way your stupid.

So, with this reasoning, it would actually be, primarily a women's track school.

And I hope that is because they are good coaches, not because they weren't involved in LSU's probation.

Before we annoint Roy Williams as a coach who could win titles any place he goes, let's take into consideration the fact that he took over some tailor-made situations. He's only walked into jobs with the best facilities, greatly funded, no other athletic programs on campus to rival the hoops teams, and places that recruit themselves. But props to him, you still have to coach the talent and he has.

I'm not saying he couldn't build anything from the ground up, I'm just saying we've never seen it and will not ever see it. Kudos to him for being selective with his jobs and setting himself up for success. All that being said, I'm not a fan.

Like I said in another thread, I am very happy with the hire. I think he will do alot of good things at LSU. LSU needed a guy who is a class act, and they couldn't have made a better decision. He did well at Stanford, I imagine he will do better here.

You're probably right, for our lifetimes. Soccer is growing by leaps and bounds in the US, and I used to hear a lot about college lacrosse. Not so much lately, though.
